Brakes binding

Featured Replies

Hello I have just bought a fabia vrs and have a slight problem with the front brakes, the drivers one is binding and getting hot, they have been stripped down and calipers seem fine. One question I need to ask is should there be any free play at the top of the brake pedal, like a but where it is loose as in not doing anything, there isn't any on mine and I wondered if that could be a problem

Have you checked the carrier pins are free and moving? Have you accually had the piston out of the caliper and checked for rust under the dust cover? The loose feeling could be air In the system and the system needs bleeding. My bet Is rusty piston under the boot and stuck carrier slider pins.

Free play on top is absolute necessary!!

Can the pedal be adjusted to get some free play, I think it's meant to be about 7mm isn't it

Nope. The lack of free play is more likely due to seized brake pistons or caliper sliders.

So I have replaced the front right caliper and while I had it off I put the wheel back on and spun the wheel which was still quite stiff to turn,so tried the other front wheel and oyster same. Are the Front wheels meant to free wheel easily or should they be quite stiff. I have no play in the bearings and no noise but they are both quite stiff to turn

There should be slight drag from the pads but the wheel should turn pretty easily. You have to take into account a bit of drag from the differential in the gearbox as well.

Crack the bleed nipple and spin again. If it's the same that will eliminate the hydraulic system.

In some way you have to make some clearance between the piston and the connection, I think. Normally about 0,2 - 0,5 mm or ca 2 - 3 mm on the brake pedal.
