Move your selector into P position

Featured Replies

So: engine running, car stationary, foot on brake, gear selector in D (probably any gear just not in Park), you open the door and you get red triangle in dashboard + message: "Move your selector into P position", and it bongs like crazy.

Is this normal behavior?

Can this bong be turned of with vcds?

I have made this change: https://sites.google.com/a/naturalnetworks.ca/vw-golf-mk7-vcds-how-to/comfort/disable-door-open-ignition-tone

However the bong is still there so I guess its a different bong (coming from the dsg I presume)

Would it not be easier to put the box into P?

The system thinks you might be about to get out of the car and is warning you of the danger.

You really should never leave the car in D and open the door, at least use N before opening the door. The warning is for safety and cannot be disabled, and is perfectly normal.

My Audi is exactly the same, and it also bongs like crazy if you open the door without engaging the steering lock and having the engine off.

I agree with you and dont do it on purpose obviously, I am completely aware of my foot being on the brake pedal, just sometimes happens when I am parking and open the door to look for surroundings or whatever and the bong is really annoying.

Yep normal on mine - but its got a point

A while ago in my local supermarket a woman left her car in drive with the engine running and handbrake on while she went to get a ticket. When she got back in the car she hit the accelerator and killed her sister. I think more cars should have an annoying bong
