If the phone rings and you have AirPlay enabled, but are currently using the built in Columbus sat nav - does the Apple AirPlay phone app come up? or the built in skoda version?

AirPlay? Different function that can't be used with Columbus. You obviously mean CarPlay. 

 

The answer is CarPlay, as it's still running in the background and has control of the phone.

You need to disconnect from CarPlay if you want Columbus to take control of the phone.

The PHONE menu of Columbus does not work while CarPlay is active.

It'll be interesting how CarPlay develops in the future. It wouldn't take much to introduce video streaming for example.
