5% bio added to diesel at the refinaries

Featured Replies

Was talking to a mechanic who was saying the refineries now add Upto 5% bio diesel

They are finding issues with injectors and fuel lines with tiny white jelly like substance in the fuel

He recommends using an injector cleaner every 5th tankful to break down these globules.

Anyone else heard of this

That's been happening for years. At least 6. Did said mechanic offer to sell you some Injector cleaner?

No didn't offer to sell me injector cleaner nor does he work for a firm that manufactures the stuff

Was just giving me the information and the procedure they use to break down the globules and their solution to it

Thought I would ask on here to see whether others have had this issue and if injector cleaner was the answer

I can't say that I have ever noticed anyone with such a problem posting on here.

Not one I've heard of and as said diesel has contained 5% bio for a number of years.

I seem to remember recently there was a thread about whether certain fuel additives were any use in modern diesels. I forget what the main conclusion was (almost certainly that they're a waste of money), but I do remember the interesting observation that a proportion of biodiesel has beneficial effects on the lubricity of the fuel. This is a very important property in high-delivery-pressure modern diesels.

Some years ago I noticed an up to 8% bio label on the diesel pump at morrisons - that was the last time I went.

Bio has improved cleaning and lubrication properties over dino diesel.

It also has more oxygen molecules in it so it helps the fuel burn better.

I think it is quite acidic though so they only use a small amount in standard EN590 diesel fuel.

They use up to 7% I think.

I've heard that IT'S ALLOWED TO USE up to 5% of that stuff but it's not mandatory. I've heard that Latvian fuel tanks do not use it at all.
