The reason TopGear didn't run the Veyron on track...

Featured Replies

Not sure if this has been mentioned before on here? There was an article in the Driving supplement of the Sunday Times last week reporting that the Veyron they had in the TG studio was just an outer shell and not the real thing. Hence not giving it a run out I suppose!

Told you my Fabia vRS could beat it round the track!!!:D

Ah, this makes sense.

Clarkson is the luckiest bloke in the world though. I'd do his job for free!

I could save the TV License payer literally pounds!

Interesting, but why post it here?

OK, did JC actually drove a real Veyron then? If not, how come he was so exicted on the show?

Yes, he drove one from Northern Italy back to London. I think he liked it :)

Just the one in the studio a mock up it seems.

true

the one in the studio was Blue and Silver or Blue and Black.... which ever they were 2 different cars...

Wondered why they had a different coloured one in the studio!

They do it quite a lot - they tested a red Cayman and then had a silver one in the studio for example (IIRC)

They always do it. the Ferrari and the Zonda the week or so before were different cars to the ones on the long trip to tthe south of france. It's not practical to keep press cars longer than needed so the companys take them back and lend them another one for the day if they need it.

So given that explanation - I assumed VW had banned them from timing it on the track, just in case it wasn't the fastest - how much faster do we believe it would be arround their Surrey airfield given the chance?

I can't remember what is at the top of their road legal list, though obviously the Enzo and Zonda are there or thereabouts.

IIRC, it used to be the Maserati MC12 but the stripped-out Zonda's top now.

Look forward to seeing the veyron go round the track, I to thought it was a shame it wasnt put round, now i know why!

So who's going to be the first to get one of those fake veyrons they use in studio and put it on a fabia chassis!

Any thoughts, Jason?

You wouldn't have to worry about all the panels fitting, seeing how the Veyron is of course based on the Fabia vRS. I think Bugatti had to put a restrictor on the air inlet or something as their 4WD system couldn't handle the million bhp and trillion lbs/ft that the Fabia's engine puts out!

*Must stop this now...*

I am not sure if I am buying this story?

Why come out with it now and not on the show, I think there's more to it, like Buggati not alowing them, but perhaps they've come to some agreement now?

Maybe its just me.

Seems odd, 'cos I imagine the chances of Clarkson stuffing it into the Armco on his European roadtrip were far higher than a trained racing driver crashing it on an empty track.

But who knows?

Like I say, imagine if it were only half a second quicker than the Zonda or whatever is fastest at the mo. 1 million euros and that's all it would do, not very good PR.

  • 1 year later...

I saw it on top gear last night, it only has 1001BHP, I have spent the last week in a Vehicle with 1200Bhp, nice realy, thirsty as hell, good off road, but not that fast, new engineer kit called Titan and Trojan, good fun
