The reason TopGear didn't run the Veyron on track...

Featured Replies

"Of course the Veyron that Clarkson raced across France, against his fellow presenters in a plane, was for real."

I'm glad they pointed that out.

I see that the only reason it wont go on the track is because it wont be the fastest... :)

Would you let the Stig bounce it off the track on that final corner and snap something that cost more than a brand new Vrs with all the extras fitted?

TG fans might be pleased to hear that they have signed up for another 2 series after this one.

Looks like we will have to wait and see if any Veyron-owning volunteer comes forward then!

I guess some of them might have more money than sense - or do anything for their (car's) 15 minutes of fame

it is the koenigsee ccx thing with the top gear wing that is top of the board

as for the bugatti there is 2 in the country one is owned by a footballer the other is owned by a mega rich buisiness man usually see it parked up along park lane in london

There is no doubt that the veyron would trounce anything else that has been around that circuit apart form the renault f1.

At a guess i would say the veyron would do it in under 1 min 10 secs easy. The F1 car managed 59 IIRC secs, and the Koninsegg is 1.17.1

Interesesting veyron stats include that in a race to 200 mph against a Meclaren F1 the meclaren can be doing 120mph before the veyron starts and the veyron will still beat it to 200mph!!

They could do a quick analysis at bugatti to decide how quick it would lap the circuit in about 10 mins, so i doubt that they are too worried bout an embarrasing time.

It

Time is the reason. The cross European blast was filmed literally months before the show it featured on and at the time of the studio filming Bugatti didn't have a press car available.

You don't build cars at £4,000,000 loss apeice and then just make them all press cars. You try to sell a couple too

It

Ive been in various cars that have active diffs, only once on gravel (it is just mind blowing what they can do), but everyone says that with these cars you can get away with things that would normally result in a big accident, they really do re-write the laws of Physics.

If you remeber a while back on TG they did a old competion cars vs current road cars, where they tested a group 4 A1 qauttro, stats, being around 350BHP and about 1100kg IIRC, and a Evo 8 FQ320, 320BHP and about 1400kg, and the evo won by about a second, despite the audi being on slicks in the dry and the evo on road tyres.

This is mainly due to the diffs IMHO.

I still think in the wet it

Most of the mags that have tested the Veyron have commented that it handles very well, especially for a great big lump, but if TG used onboard telemetry for a run, I

Mil should drive it :) Like a king etc...

yes, 2 tons, wet corner, 4 wd...... would be intersesting to see.

Surely, he wouldn't waste his time with something so inferior to the Fabia.

Hurray , someone who might agree with me a little bit

Blimey - an old thread of mine resurrected :)

Can't see it being 7 seconds quicker than the Koenigsegg TBH, but yes - it would be interesting to see what it can do.

Seems a bit pointless to me, building a car like that, and then not benchmarking it against the opposition - even if it is double the price of most and has at least a 1/3 more power....

Surely Nick Mason's got one by now? Get him back on the phone Jezza! ;)

Steve

Possibly not the best cornering speeds they have seen but it still think even in the wet it would be pretty impressive. But i do think the Acceleration would more than make up for it.

I agree with Shifty it would be interesting to see.

I think Shifty was really agreeing with me

I cant understand why TG haven't taken one of these round the track yet. I reckon it would be a real contender for the top spot and its british! :)

Ok so it has a yank engine but you cant have everything! And you may call it a kit car but you can buy a fully factory built one so technically its a road legal production car!

Now that might be really quick and I bet it sounds great too:thumbup:

I agree it would be interesting to see.

Loking at the comparative kionsegg ccx accelertion figures and braking figures, compared to those of the veyron, the veyron is streest ahead, so in the wet it would be impared, but IMHO it would more than match the CCX.

Then judging by the problems the Stig had making the CCX corner, it is not ever an easy car to drive, whilst the Veyron would be impared in the wet and it may not be able to match the CCX's perfornace in the corner i dare say it wouldnt be far behind still. The 4wd makes a big differance. I would cirtinally be intereseted to see what difference in time it did make it being dry to wet for the Veyron.

I also think that if the case was that the time was a bit too close that TG may not allow this, and they may tell the stig to keep going until it was acceptable, or never tell anybody about it.

Ultimatly we may have to agree to disagree on this!!

I

what i did find stunning about the veyron on yesterdays TG was just how smooth and stable it looked at 253mph with captain slow at the wheel!

Opportunity missed to put a piece of paper with the Briskoad site on it
