The reason TopGear didn't run the Veyron on track...

Featured Replies

Ill agree in some ways it would be nice to see a porper sports car, with a hugely powerful engine in the front, rear wheel drive, 2 seats, that was designned by some fellow in a shed that just had a very good understanding of what makes a car work.

Whilst I would love a blast in a Veyron, i think that if it were my money i would be buying something like a meclaren F1. designed by one of the most knowledgeble people in the world, and nothing between you and whats happening, every error, or perfect manuvre is all your doing and yours alone. That for me is very rewarding.

Did you know that they used a couple of ultima mk3's as test mules for the mclaren F1?

Lee noble, the designer of the original ultima knows a thing about chassis design! :)

I cant understand why TG haven't taken one of these round the track yet. I reckon it would be a real contender for the top spot and its british! :)

Ok so it has a yank engine but you cant have everything! And you may call it a kit car but you can buy a fully factory built one so technically its a road legal production car!

That's in a McDonald's car park? .....

Must be a Saxo with a bodykit...

Maybe the driver was hungry? ;)

The ultima looks an awsome piece of kit. I know it doesnt compare but ive used the one in PGR3 (project Gothem Racing) on the Xbox 306, and that is a deamon machine, if a real one is half as good, its one **** hot car.

Also you know it is a proper car when acsessories and extras like, seats and seatbelts are not included in the original price.

Hmm Off to see how i may be able to raise the £20,000 i would need to buy one.

Also post 200!!

Cant be, the exhaust(s) is too small and it doesnt have lexus lights.

I dont think the veyron will be very quick round a track.. its still a 2 ton car that was built to push the envelope and be a comfortable car at 250+mph lol

Theres a vid floating round of a elise vs veyron on track.. and the elise has far superior cornering speed.

Ill be *very* suprised if there is ever a real back to back comparison of the veyron on track.. you would think someone else in the world would have done it by now??

Edit: here it is

Great vid that! I reckon it'll only be a matter of time before one of TG's friends gets one and offers it for a track test. Nick Mason as I've said, or JK perhaps?

I doubt it. He would of bought the Franchise rather than a Happy Meal. ;)

That video came out a while back, and not soon after the Veyron was released. I'd put that down to the driver not having enough experience with such a machine and therefore took it very easy on the corners.

My old boss had the big engine Ultima GTR - apparently at the time the fastest production car available. Yet nobody's heard of them!?!

It was absolutely stunning and her husband built it himself from kit form. What a feeling of achievement that must be.

I see where Amanda's coming from, and agree with her about sports cars, but there's one little flaw in her reasoning wrt a Veyron; It's an ultracar (entry to this class requires verified top speed over 220mph), not a sports car.

I've never seen an Ultima V8, but I used to know someone who had and raced the original V6 car, which looked like a scaled-down Porsche 956.

I think Shifty was really agreeing with me

I find I do that alot Ma'Lady.

The Ultima GTR holds the Current Record for 0-100-0 IRC!

9.4secs!!!! Thats quick!
