Windscreen Wipers

Featured Replies

I've been putting off asking this as it just seems too daft but I find it weird that you can't lift the front wipers arms up because the bonnet gets in the way. It's a right pain when trying to wash the car as you can barely lift them enough to get underneath to clean the blades, it's the first car I've ever had where you can't lift them right up.

I'm assuming all Octavia VRS's are the same or is there some nifty little trick I'm missing...?

Turn on and then off the electrics. As soon as you turn off the electrics, flick the windscreen wiper handle and the arms lift to vertical on the windscreen. Then you can lift then completely off the screen.

I assume they are folded down like that normally for aerodynamics and reduce change of being snapped off/theft.

Hope that helps?

It confused me at first, you have to turn the ignition on, then off, then hold the wiper stalk for 3 seconds and the wipers will move up the screen so you can fold them back to clean the screen.

Cheers for the input guys. I was hoping to avoid that option as I've never liked operating the wipers on a dry screen but that appears to be the only option. Small niggle I know

If you're washing the car then the screen will be wet won't it ;)

I think they are like that due to NCAP testing.

The wiper housing / mount point is a major risk for head trauma in a pedestrian collision.

It probably helps with the other two as well :)

Wow! I've learned something new... Always wondered why the passenger side wiper was parked in that odd position when the car is off and why it moves slightly when the car is in motion! Wrote it off as some odd not so simply clever quirk if the car!

It will be by the time I've finished though, not wishing to go into my cleaning routine ;-)

The slight movement is to ensure it does not always set at the same angle, which over time would lead to poor wiping in one direction. Simply clever!

They twitch every 5 cycles or something. As John says to stop the blades bending.

Don't do what I did and forget to put the blades back to the screen before switching the ignition back on....ouch,new blade

How did that damage the wiper blade?
