Favorit Silver Line query - new owner

Featured Replies

Hello, all Favorits and Felicias come with 165/70s wether they have alloys or not. BUT at least in the case Felicia the alloy wheels are wider. The steel wheels are 4.5 inch and the alloys 5.5 inch. Somewhere on the wheel the dimensions are usually marked. If yours are 5.5 inch they should easily take something like a 185/60 which should help. They are a bit understeery on the standard tyres aren't they? Obviously as you get wider you need to go lower profile. There are tyre size calculators online and as long as you are within about 5% of the original diameter you should be OK.

As for the spares I think they are probably worth a lot less than he's asking but he's playing the rarity card. On the other hand the ad has been up for 25 days so he may be open to offers even though the ad says 'no offers'. There's a difference between rare and desirable and just plain rare.

Good luck.

Mr. Here again, thanks Yoss. I shall look into tyres later, there is plenty of meat on them but they are a mixture of mid range and budget I reckon.

I haven't experienced too much understeer but I have only driven it gently but I can well believe it. I haven't experienced terminal understeer since I had an Austin Ambassador back in 94.... I hope I don't have to relive that..

That bundle of goods is a bit tricky to put a value seeing as I don't NEED any of it but wouldn't mind having it. Knowing smugly you have a full set of lights stashed in the loft means should the day come when some kind soul backs into the corner of your car, cracks a light and clears off means the car can be fixed up instantly is attractive. If the tyres on the 2 alloys are good then they would be at least £40 each new but if they are 10 years old I probably wouldn't want to drive on them. The alloys and centres look nice. I shall see how the MOT pans out before I start on cosmetics. I do want to make it as good looking, safe, sorted and original as I affordably can so Tracy has a cool first car.

The ad is still on gumtree, I've just checked. It says Chadderton, Manchester so I assume it's the same guy. Otherwise it's a big coincidence.

As well as the centre caps there are two spare Silverline alloys, which as I said are now very rare plus a full set of lights, front and rear.

He wants £180 for the lot which seems a bit steep but if it's the same guy you bought car off he ought to do you a deal unless he's a complete arse. Did he seem friendly?

Hi Yoss (et al),

Just wanted to bring the story of the Favorit parts to a happy ending.  We did eventually buy the parts, and went to collect them this weekend.  They were in Chadderton, near Manchester, and although the chap selling them wasn't the same guy we bought the car from, he was the previous owner of our car.  He had the trailer in his garage with the registration number on!  I realise there are only a few of these cars left in the world, so not that much of a coincidence, but we now have a loft full of Skoda bits and pieces so no worries if I crack a headlight or tail light (I can hear my OH shaking his head and rolling his eyes).  Hope to meet some of you at the event in July, where we will be bringing Stinky, as long as an old and slightly battered Favorit is welcome?

Thanks again for (most) of your comments and help.

Tracy

Tracy, please next time exercise less drama on insignificant issues and you'll get over all comments easier. We are all adults here. Just my 2 cents.

Sshhhhhhh

Hello Tracy, glad to hear it, though I think the centre caps were yours by right anyway. I noticed he had dropped the price a couple of times and then the advert disappeared. Glad it was you that got them.

I've just had a look on howmanyleft.co.uk and it says there are currently 21 Silver lines left. 14 are GLXI's and just 7 GLXIe’s. If yours is one of the 7 with a little e on the end of the badge it means it has a slightly more powerful engine. A whopping 67bhp against 54 on the others. Either way, glad you're enjoying it.

I tried to buy one last week but it had already gone. Not a Silverline but a 1992 LS. It was only an hour or so away, 30,000 miles and looked mint. Probably why it went so soon. I'll have to check Gumtree every day instead of every few days.

I'm sure you'll be very welcome at the national meet. It will be mainly new Skoda's but there's always a handful of of older cars and they stand out all the more becuase theres so few of them. I go to a local monthly meet (just come back from it now in fact) and it is mainly the VRS boys but my Felicia looks good in amongst the Octavias. As long as you're keen you'll fit in.

By the way, don't worry about Riccardo. He has a certain way about him but we put up with it because he knows his stuff, particularly on electrics and comes out with all sorts useful pictures and diagrams.

Not sure what you mean by "He has a certain way about him" but thank you for endorsing my knowledge which iirc benefited you too. It was my pleasure. If it is about putting too much energy in not letting wrong, deceiving technical opinions pass by, I am still open for debates based on evidence and science. Anyone confident on his knowledge should be all over me questioning my knowledge using as much arguments, pictures, diagrams, videos, etc. as I do. Sadly, that never happened.

Hello Riccardo. That was meant to be a slightly humourous remark, no offence meant. Humour of course doesn't always work in writing, especially when there's a language barrier as well. You probably didn't read it the way I wrote it.

We do appreciate (or at least I do) all your diagrams. I don't know first of all where you find them all and secondly how you get them from wherever you find them on to here. My computer knowledge is minimal and I have no wish to change that . It's why I drive a Felicia and am currently seeking a good Favorit to replace the only car from the 21st century I've ever owned. I'm happy in the 20th century! Anyway I digress...

You're right. For some finer meanings in English I still need emojis. But I am a quick learner.

Well... some 30% are from foreign Felicia forums. Czech, Slovak, Polish, German, Russian, French, Arabic. They post A LOT more photos than here. I happen to have good knowledge of graphics design. Most photos are not great in quality so I enhance the lighting, hue, contrast, sharpness, and resolution. When I need to explain something, I take the rignt photo from my archive and I annotate it saving many words. Other 30% of the photos I have come from my Czech friend Lugosy which took photos of his old 1.3 MPI Felicia while stripping it to the bone. He did a very good job not only by showing every part of the car but sometimes sectioning (!) faulty parts to see what went wrong. The rest is my work. Photos from repairs I did in my garage to a lot of Felicias and Favorits. The electrical diagrams I post from time to time, like the schematic of the instrument cluster for instance, are a premiere. Being an electronics engineer, I reversed engineered the PCB to get the schematic. And I could go on but I stop here. There are a couple of  people that don't like my presence in this forum and I don't want to annoy them (too much).

Someone (can't remember who) told me that the Favorit alloys were wider, like Yoss said about Felicias.

Sounds like it's in good hands!
