Website is down at the minute, typical :D

I do mostly mountain biking and use Endomondo. Tried Strava a couple of times but seems more suited to road cycling and personally i wasn't a fan.

What? [emoji23]

Strava is all about biking, on or off road. I think the issue is with strava people dont know enough people on it, so cant compare with your friends etc.

I love comparing myself to others then trying to beat them and my last ride.

I find Strava more useful for off road riding as there's more variation in the bike and conditions so I find it interesting to see the difference in performance between 29, plus, fat, rigid, hardtail, full suspension etc. and differences in trail conditions, it often feels similar when riding but the reality is quite different.  I can see the use of it for road cycling for those pushing their physical performance but less use to me as the road bikes have similar performance and the only variation in routes is how much climbing there is, the performance on the road is usually consistent.

Well im pleased to say i got a decent result with map as well, set my alarm early for work and took the bike, i turned the wifi off before leaving my house incase that messes things up going from wifi to 4G. I got to work, opened the app and clicked the flag.

Seemed to log quite accurately the longer i ride so thats good i suppose. Shame i'll be using it on my new phone tomorrow :D

Got my iPhone SE a week or two back now and can confirm the app works well again!

I've found the dashboard map looks a little rough sometimes Untill you click it and it makes it bigger so shows it more accurately.

Also the longer distance I do the more accurate it seems. So bonus really :)

No problems with Strava on my aging HTC One X. Only annoyance is having to set the ride type to E-Bike every time as not to mess with the KoMs etc :P

Plan to use it over the longer term to see how much I actually manage to use the bike for commuting especially as the weather turns.

I've been using Strava for years now, albeit from a garmin 705. I use the mobile app ocasionally when doing a long walk with the dog or the very rare occurrence of a run.

For the desktop version, if you use chrome, download the Stravastix extension, it gives loads of additional data without going for the paid version.

Another good website is Veloviewer, again giving loads of additional data plus 3D route profiles overlay ed on maps. That's £10 per year, but we'll worth it.

I've just asked to join the club on Strava too.

Thought this might be useful for the cyclist reading this thread:

Bike Fast Fit is very good and worth the money. I use it quite regularly to check my son's bike fit as he grows.

I also use apps called 'Saddle Adjust' and 'Bike Repair'. Both were free and help you do what you think they will help you do.

Strava user here.

Topeak are finally releasing thier Panobike app to Android in November, so I'm tempted to give that a shot too!

Strava and zwift.

Strava and zwift.

How does that zwift work? Do you need special rollers/turbo that adjusts to simulate the terrain?

You need minimum a speed sensor on your bike that is ant+ compatible. Then an ant+ USB dongle for your computer. Much better still is an ant+ power meter, a power tap hub, a smart trainer or a watt bike all work well. Zwift uses power (either direct from power meter or calculated from speed sensor) and your weight to work out your power / weight ratio (W/kg) to formulate how fast you ride in the game. "dumb" trainers (people who use speed sensors) and weight dopers (those that deliberately use a lower body weight) are generally shunned. Zwift is fun on a basic level, but there are lots of serious training and race rides where rules are important. It's not a game, that's for sure, though in my opinion many take it way too seriously, bearing in mind I treat it like real life as far as possible.

I have speed, cadence and HR Garmin sensors which are all ant+

I don't get how it works though. I can quite happily do 30mph until I get bored (doesn't take long on the rollers) so surely when the 'hills' come I'll still be doing 30mph up them?

I would have thought you'd need a resistance changing to simulate the hills etc?
