I have a Skoda Octavia 1.6 CR on a 10 plate. I use the car for my job as I am a taxi driver.

 

I was driving when the glow plug light on the dash started to flash, everything seemed ok until I stopped at some traffic lights and tried to set off. There was hardly any power. Luckily I managed to pull over where there was a Mr Clutch who plugged their computer in and it came back as Cylinder 4 Injector(something close to those words anyway). I had a word with the mechanic I use who told me I needed this new Injector and would cost me roughly £190 +vat for the part and £50 fitting. I've had the job done but when I picked it up today the car on tick over was shaking and I mean really shaking quite bad. It's never done this before.

 

I was wondering if this is normal due to it being a new injector and maybe needs to be bedded in? Or maybe all the injectors need sorting?

 

If anyone can shed some light on this for me it would be greatly appreciated, I don't know much about cars tbh.

 

Also, the mechanic I use said it's the garbage(to put it nicely) fuel from places like morrisons that causes these Injectors to fail. Is this something you would agree with or is it a load of cobblers. Remember, I'm a taxi driver and do probably 600 miles per week. I decided to take his advice and put BP Ultimate in today. Expensive stuff. Ha

I'm pretty sure that engine uses Siemens piezo injectors - unfortunately they are not known for their reliability. VAG Have now changed the supplier of injectors for that engine.

If the new injector (if it was new) was coded correctly you shouldn't need to bed it in.

It may require a few miles for the ECU to fully adapt to the new part though.

I can't imagine they have the correct equipment to code the injector into the ECU properly.

Thanks for the reply guys. i was just about to say that about the correct equipment. In that case would I have to go to Skoda?

Skoda or I think it can be done with VCDS.

Any garage with any number of brands of diagnostic equipment will be able to code the injectors (if it hasn't been done already).

It doesn't have to be Skoda or VCDS

When my injector failed the car shook as you described at idle but it also entered limp mode. £190 + vat for the part is cheap though and so is £50 labour..

 

@Xpower, who do they use for injectors now?

They now use Delphi solenoid injectors instead of the Siemens piezo

Mark, it worked out £270 altogether.

So I phoned skoda today to see if they could help, £90 per hour he said. Wishing id just took it to dealer in first place, at least then I'd have warranty and they'd have done the job correctly.

Anyway, I've phoned my mechanic who's done the job and he said the shaking could be the other 3 injectors that are blocked up. Said it could take a couple of tanks of good diesel to clear them out. It only shakes on tick over though. The Rev needle is very calm and doesn't move so I'm puzzled to what's causing it.

Baffled and cheesed off cos need my car for work.

Try Independent cars Ash, they are very good and half dealer price. Ex Gilders mechanics and only just up past Meadowfarm.

 

Alternatively Autohaus Dolby just up past institute of sport (Coleridge Road) are excellent. What they don't know about VAG cars isn't worth knowing!
