engine management light keep showing skoda octavia mk2 1.9 tdi 2008

Featured Replies

Hi, i bought this skoda from a trader with the engine light on. They told me its the maf sensor and it will be cheap to replace. I took the car to a service for cambelt kit/water pump/auxiliary belt and diagnose. They called me and ask me if I wand the maf to be replaced because this was the fault on diagnose. They changed the maf sensor and when I took the car from them I drived for 2 miles and the light apaired agaain. Since then they changed 3 maf sensor, fittet the fourth genuine maf sensor, and egr valve, checked all wirring and pipes, but the light it is still on. The car has power, its working perfect but I am afraid that something could go wrong. Please, what can be the solving of this problem? Thanks!

There are many reasons why the light can be on, best bet is to get the car scanned by VCDS which will reveal all the faults with the car. Have a look in the VCDS section on here, there is a members map. Find a member close to you, and get in contact via PM.

As already mentioned you need it VCDS scanning.

However on the 1.9 pd the egr, turbo variable vanes and anti-shudder valve are vacuum operated and if there is anything wrong/leaking with this system including associated solenoids then you can have errors thrown up on any of these systems and it's easy to start replacing expensive parts when it's just a simple leak

The flexible pipes can rot or rub through and the hard plastic pipes can eventually run through with the diesel vibration. The vacuum system starts with a "T" off near the brake servo which takes a feed from the larger brake servo pipes to the very small pipes feeding the above systems. I did this on mine , disconnecting at each stage to feel/listen for the vacuum - mine was a rubbed through hard plastic pipe - see photo of small section cut out with hole rubbed through:-
