Supplementary heater

Featured Replies

Did you get your codes from the build sticker in the boot?

My build sticker doesn't list that much on it. Doesn't even list things like the SLA or ventilated seats, even though they are quite obviously there!

  • The webasto is great, never going to have a car without! Have it on our Golf GTE and Ocatvia 3. Comes as standard on L&K in norway on the Superb. Start it via Remote 20-30 minutes before departure

  • Just had a play with VCDS and look what I have found:   Before:       Now:     So I have ticked the “Automatic auxiliary heater” box and done a scan... no fault codes, will find out later

I would definitely consider it, it gets Baltic round these parts in winter!

No, I have a PDF supplied by a contact who has access to ETOS.

My old Passat PD130s had some additional heating elements in the coolant; in less than a minute from start you'd have some warmish air, enough to start demisting/deicing the screen in winter.

By contrast, my old Ibiza PD130 (ie - same engine) didn't have these, and it took *ages* to warm up, especially from an icy winter departure into traffic where the engine didn't have to do much work.

I'm interested to know if our S3 (150 TDI) has any sort of coolant heater. Although with heated screen and seats, winter starts are less of an issue.

I've never seen anything in the PD engines but in the previous injection pump engine some had 3 glow plug style heaters in a coolant flange on the side of the head but I don't think they worked very well. My Dads old Galaxy had a diesel heater which I suspect is a bit like the Webasto, or it may of even been a Webasto but it wasn't remote controlled it just fired up on cold mornings to help heat the coolant.

When I was considering buying a diesel, and trying to work out if I needed to spec the heated windscreen due to the lack of early heat, Skoda customer services confirmed to me that the SIII didn't have a PTC electric aux heater in the UK.

Seems like they may have been wrong!

Ah right. Was that via the VIN or something?

yeah it was.

yeah it was.

Ok, thanks. I know someone who has access to that system. I'll get my VIN over to them and see what's what. Given what I found in the fuse box this morning, there must be some sort of electrical aux heating on board.

Thats exactly like a Webasto, only without the preheating functionality. Had it on my Mondeo.

The Mondeo also had electric heating. When I hit "max" on the defroster a 2(i think)kW electric heater fired up. That combined with the heated frontscreen tore through the ice.

But another nice thing with the Webasto on the O3 is the possibility to disable the Webasto, then it will only draw in fresh air to somewhat Cool the cabin on hot days. Can either be started with the remote or be preprogrammed.

I would guess the s3 does the same?

I think the electric symbol on the schematic is just an electric pump, if the their is no heat demand from cabin it will remain off to build the heat up faster in the block reduce envision s etc

The zig-zag lines in the heat exchanger on the bottom left of the picture definitely look like the commonly used symbol for an electric resistive heating element to me...

Yep, the pump symbol is the one at the bottom of the micro circuit. The symbol in the heat exchanger looks very similar to the symbol for a heated windscreen, i.e electric heater element.

Umm.. sorry for sounding lazy, but can you provide a pic of this setting?

I am having a hard time locating this. Is it only in diesels?

Only in diesels

Press menu on the climate control button. Press settings and there it is

Not present in mine (190 TDi with heated screen)

Mine is same as Rick's and I have supplementary heater option ticked.

150 DSG

Must admit it does heat up quite quickly - more efficient than my old 140CR.

This morning my car was blowing warm air in matter of minutes, -3'c.

Oil temp was 85'c after 4 miles in 12 minutes

interesting... so this could be heated window screen linked then ?

Clear windscreen and cold... or frozen windscreen and warm :)

Ok so just had a look in my 150 DSG SE-L and I can't even find the Air Conditioning menu :(

Can someone give me a clue please?

.You need to access the menu page by pushing the button marked 'menu' which is on the centre dial of the climatronic controls. That will bring up the menu page on the infotainment screen. Then select the 'settings' button (the one that looks like a gear wheel) and you will find the screen shown in the screen shots above. You can check out page 74 of the infotainment manual for more help if you need it.
