Are there too many detailing products out there

Featured Replies

As a relative newbie to the dark art of detailing, I'm totally bewildered at times by the sheer number of detailing products out there and IMO it makes life pretty difficult to decide. I'm certain that some of these must be the same but with different labels, or are there really that number of detailing suppliers instructing chemists or making their own unique potions?

Here's what I've got as my current basics but would appreciate input for improvements and additions

Pre wash Bilt Hamber Foam used via a garden sprayer, BH clay, BH wheel cleaner, BH shampoo, BH APC

Autoglym SRP (I don't have a Polisher)

BH Finis & Collinite 476

Sonax BSD

I've ordered some wax addict Foshow as a quick glosser for the summer but am considering getting the EZ Car Care sealant pack as I fancy comparing using a sealant on higher management's car with the waxes I've got

So over to the real experts on here for suggestions and comments

Evening,

I agree. The market is flooded with products. Some do the same as some others, others do better. Some are easier to work with, others are difficult.

The scale of products is huge compared to just sticking to the halfords range of car care. What I tend to do and really really enjoy doing is trying different products constantly & testing. Yes it gets expensive but it's a hobby for me & living quite close to some detailing friends helps in testing products and swapping products for test.

The best way to find what works for you is by doing this rather than being set in a way of, 'well it works and I'm not going to change that'.. The Bilt Hamber kit is fantastic to start with. I love their products!

Andy @ clean your ride is a great place to start if you are wanting to try new products. His sample range is brilliant. Then up to you if you proceed to by bigger bottles & settle for what suits you.

Trying new products is great fun though!

Enjoy & glad to see you posting in this section!

I'm a fan of Power Maxed Products, easy on, easy off and easy to use.

Good post Karl. Sums it up well from my perspective....

As you say - its an expensive hobby - but i really enjoy testing new stuff..... good or bad;

keeps my detailing routine interesting to try new products at the various stages.

But that said, i do try and get products at special launch pricing or GB offers if possible.

The option of samples at CYR and SampleThis or wherever is a superb option too.

I've not seen either of them as options in the Superb Brochure :D

I like them all to be honest, no fancy tins, bottles, simple labelling explaining how to use, excellent pricing and it does what it says.

Excellent customer Services.

Yes.....as fairly new to this, there is way too much out there at times.

I've bought a few items following comments and advise on here, for the most part they have worked well and I like using them. Only one or two products I've bought do I feel that they to me have been a waste of money.

I've posted something similar to this on a previous thread, so apologies if I'm repeating myself (in part).

I agree there are too many products out there and the market is saturated. I used to be a frequent member of Detailing World and have tried many different products over the years; as with many on DW I got caught up on "bandwagons" and "trying the next best new product" and found it difficult to see "the wood for the trees" as there are so many variables when detailing a car, across the different stages.

I've now settled on a range of products for specific jobs and very very rarely move away from them - in bulk this is the GTechniq range, yes it's expensive but for me it does what I want it to do, and I just don't have time to spend on detailing as I used too (family and other commitments). Elsewhere I use VP Bilberry Wheel Cleaner, AG Fast Glass and Poorboys Natural Look Dressing. That's it, nothing else.

But I also agree it's each to their own.
