vRS Re-mapping options?

Featured Replies

I've had an insurance quote for a re-mapped (I'm not going to do anything else, as I don't think it would be worth the cost) engine:

11-20% (upto 216 horses) power increase +179quid

21-30% (upto 234 horses) power increase +245quid

So 210-215bhp would be great to keep it within the cheaper cost.

What are the relative merits of the various 'simple' re-maps? Are they a generic flash or tuned to be specific to the car when run on a rolling road?

I've read good things about Jabba, but they are abuot 200 miles away. Awesome are only down the road I suppose that would be a good place to start

Look no further than Custom Code remap. The maps are written for your vehicle and your driving style and puts other remaps in the shade. Check out the section on this website, all happy customers.

or you could try one of the other tuners...

check the partners section and take your time in choosing.

ask all the questions you think you need to so you know what your getting for your money... if you dont plan on doing anything else to the car then a generic remap is going to do the business for you.

Hi

Yes I would also say the same.

We can offer you Custom-Code but there are other dealers about too.

www.custom-code.co.uk is their web site.

Phase 1 is generic or Phase 2 is full custom.

If this is your only mod then yes Phase 1 is the way to go.

Use the search button or check out the partners section as Nigel said.

Do check all of them though and dont be afraid to ask lots of questions to make sure you know that the tuner knows what they are on about.

Thanks for the replies

My wishes/requirements are as follows:

More mid-range Torque/Power

-More top-end power (pulling hard to the red-line)would be a bonus

Maintain fuel economy and Ability to run 95 octane fuel if necessary.

Maintain 'drivability' around town.

Having said this, discovering that my, presumably standard, car isn't shamed by a 250bhp Saab, maybe it's unnecessary and not worth paying more for insurance.... Then again....

We have had both our Octavias mappede by Jabba and can recomend them 101% Basically you need to choose someone yopu feel happy with & someone thatys not too far to drive, having said that Im in Winchester & Jabba are in Peterborough.

Discuss your requirements with whoever you choose & if they know their stuff they can map the car to your specific requirements. If you choose an off the shelf "plug & load" map then you will get the basic & thats it chum.

Better to go for a personalised map if yopu have specific requirements.

Also a rolling road run to ensure it does what it says is a good idea

Awesome are brilliant guys to deal with and really know how to look after their customers, I have just gone APR Beta after having the 6 Hour trial and seeing them get almost identical power to the CC2 offering, just got to let it adapt then it will be tweaked over the next week or two then I will post the results. I have had loads of stuff and given the number of people reporting problems with maps from other tuners that are based XXX miles from wherever then I think you have to way up the 'what if?' factor, i.e if it all goes pearshaped do you really wantto be driving halfway across the uk with a poorly car, particularly if you are not after out and out maximum power.

If you are local to stockport, drop me a PM and i would be happy to Demo it to you.....but better still get the free trial, it really is the real deal!

Loads of good reports over on scn about the Beta, Seems like Jim's making full use of his RR.

whats the cost of this Beta when compared to other tuners custom remaps?

Beta is the posh name for testing the new development code, they are tweaking the map specifically to get the best out of the cars mods, very much like Custom Code 2

I am VERY impressed with it and the car is just getting better and better....this is the car skoda should have released!

I'm already impressed with my car, so that sounds fantastic!

Oh dear I can sense a large credit card transaction.....

I've almost bitten the bullet. Having decided that everyone needs to have a silly car at some point in their life, I've spoken to the Awesome blokes and it should be 'de-restricted' tomorrow.....

I hope it's a wise move.:D

It takes a couple of days for the car to really adapt then it really starts to shine, I have yet to get it back to Jim for some datalogging and tweaking and it is now the car that I always wanted it to be yet still ultrasmooth and a pussycat around town.

The extra torque makes it even better to drive everyday as you find yourself holding a gear rather than up and down the box!

I have got to say though.....a week in the lake district on empty roads was some serious fun!!  Cheers to all you guys at Awesome... Happy new year!

That's what I wanted to hear, Dave.

I had intended to look at your motor, but I thought I'd just go for it anyway! It should be an even better stealth car.

It's done -APR 98 map.

Cheers for the advice.

I've not that driven far in it yet and it's wet here today, but first impressions are that it's much more reponsive and the boost seems to pick up much quicker. 2nd gear is now monstrous and could be used almost exclusively!

It seems more friendly in town too. Slow standing starts are much smoother than before as the torque feels as if it's available from tickover instead of there being a bit of a dead-zone.

All in all, from the first drive it seems to have moved the vRS into the next division up, it's now chasing play-off places in the Championship :)

POST SCRIPT: It's now settled in properly and is very impressive. The chassis copes extremely well, with no crazy torque steer. I think the ASR has been a bit surprised (activating at 60mph in the damp on a straight...). Acceleration is linear, even at 'motorway' speeds and feels as if could go on and on. Now, where's that runway?

I have the CC remap and it sounds very similar :D

A good remap is worth every single penny it costs

It certainly is. I'm very pleased with it, especially having done 39.6mpg average on the way to work this morning!

Does anyone have a dyno plot for a APR remp?
