Swing Radio Live Feed

Featured Replies

Hi..

I am fitting a CCTV system to the Superb II as it is a taxi. At the moment the CCTV system is fitted for manual power up.

I would like it to be ignition activated and I know that in cases like this a live feed is taken from the radio power supply so when the ignition comes on then this also supplies the live feed to the CCTV system.

Before I get access to the back of the radio does anyone have any knowledge as to which wire would be the live feed?

Also.. is there any diagrams on removing the Swing radio before I break something :)

Thanks

AP

Pretty sure the swing only has permanent power, on/off is controlled via CAN bus messages.

Instead, you'll need to find a suitable power source from the fuse box :)

Mmm... ok.... thought it would be simple :)

No need to remove the radio and start crimping in to wiring as it's easy enough to do in the fuse box at the end of the dashboard. I used this method to get a switched feed for my dashcam using a piggyback fuse feeding into a 12v socket with a USB charger fitted to feed the Mobius camera....

This is the post in my project thread which had a could of pics of my install in the fuse box area at the end of the dash....... http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/321367-waveydaveys-superb-twindoor/?p=4130462

I seem to remember that the top half of the fuse box are perm live and the bottom half are switched live.

I'm a taxi driver and I think it's bad idea activate cctv when engine is running. What if u siting and customer coming from front of u but engine is not running ?after run guy is running away and u don't have he's face on your camera.

My camera is working all the time when I'm siting in my car

Great thanks very much for the info... Wasnt aware there was such a thing as a piggy back fuse holder... looks very easy...

My CCTV system (4 channel) just needs what is known as a Fire Wire to work via the ignition as it still has a fixed + & - feed from the main battery..

Thanks again

I absolutely agree with you 100%.

My taxi CCTV has always been manually switched on when I start work and off when I finish.... this captures everything.

However... the $%^&*((!!!!  Brighton & Hove council now stipulates that it must be ignition activated.... Despite me pointing out the bleeding obvious that when you are on a rank with the engine off you wont capture the video of the customer getting in which could possibly be crucial evidence.. and the council insists that we turn our engines off on the ranks!

However.. on the fitted CCTV systems you can adjust the power down time from 0 to many hours... so I will set mine to about 15 minutes or so... this is where the fire works for delayed shutdown...

No worries. Piggyback fuses can be picked up on eBay for a couple of quid. ;)

yes...just ordered one.... :)  Thanks!

One thing to remember is to use an existing fuse of the same value as the one you will be putting in....

Thanks for the info.... but my CCTV system has been hard wired directly to the battery for constant power and just needs a fire wire live feed. This signal from the ignition feed.... shuts down and powers up the system.. with a choice of shutdown time delay...

The power cable / fire wire is shown here..power.jpg

And if anyone is interested.. this is what I have fitted.. with three cameras.. two internal.. one road facing... its a twin 128gb system giving 258gb  plus facility to add 1tb hard drive if needed.. :)

I paid £116 for the main unit,.,.,

When I was fitting the dashcam there were a few of us doing so at the same time and the boxes like that weren't always found to be reliable hence I went for a straight 12v socket and a more reliable USB charger that can be replaced a lot easier if it ever fails.

My camera is connected directly to fuses on right hand just under lights switch so I have socket empty

If by 'boxes' you mean the main CCTV unit... then I would agree that the old fashion hard drive systems are useless for vehicle use.. especially with all those road humps.. or in my case.. my day driver hitting the curbs! :)

The newer ones are all SD based.. and over the last few years they have grown from simple 32gb units to twin 32gb units (64gb) which is what I had ,.,. to twin 64gb (128gb) to single 128 gb to what is available now being twin 128gb giving a whopping 256gb...

For profession use with the multi camera facility they cant be beaten by the simple dash cam...even with a two camera (road and internal view one)  I have a twin 32gb dash cam in my private car for personal use.

Also... Brighton & Hove council insists on 28 days data retention as well.....

If you follow the link to my thread I posted earlier you'd see that is also what I'm on about....... ;)

Yes.. my taxi use to work this way.. and my private car has a dash cam which is connected to a auxiliary socket directly to the battery (fused) which is hidden under the dash.. and has a manual button..

No I was talking about the power supply boxes that majkelo had linked to. ;)

My is exactly the same :)

Actually that is the same place where I had an auxiliary socket for my previous taxi CCTV but wired directly to the battery with a manual switch... and my private car is exactly the same.. although I would have used the piggy back fuse if I had known about them :)

Oh well!   Could have saved myself some typing!  :)

Good night.. and thanks very much for all the info! :)

Is your inward facing (cabin) CCTV under the directives of the DPA or whetever its called controlling data, or is it council access to data only?

you can get 4 camera CCTV which has no LCD screen so no-one can see any mushes, but put CCTV stickers up

id leave it "ALWAYS ON" and sod the council

  • Author

The owner of the CCTV is the data controller.. so as I am the owner of the taxi I have an ICO data controller licence (£35).

The LCD screen is optional... I wasnt keen on having one but this does make the customer more aware that the CCTV is on so I now have it running.. its a 4.5 inch one so its not obtrusive. Plus it shows that the unit is recording.
