New pcv valve

Featured Replies

Having a few issues with a vrs octavia tsi I brought a few weeks ago. Has 3months warranty. Didn't notice first of all that the car shakes when idling and threw up a p2015 code took it back and the garage said they had replaced the internal flaps inside the intake manifold I'm not sure if this is possible ? Anyway the fault code doesn't flag up anymore but the car still shakes and the revs hang and is very jerky when pulling away.i get a p0507 code which I think is throttle body? Are the throttle bodies serviceable or not ? Just need to know if they are or not because the garage said they will fix or replace it and just one more question lol brought a new pcv valve as the old one may need changing. Swapped it over and the car was running even worst with the new one ! Can anyone explain why this would happen ? Sorry for the long winded post any help greatly appreciated oh the car is ex police and has covered 145k

\I'm not sure what they did, but as far as I'm aware, and what most will say is that you cannot replace the swirl flap runner in the manifold, it is a sealed plastic unit.

I reaplced my manifold recently as I too was getting p2015 but it has not change the idle shaking in the slightest, so I think I have a DMF or engine mount issue.

Your other error is this:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16891/P0507/001287

16891/P0507/001287 - Idle Control System RPM: Higher than Expected. Possible Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) active
Possible Causes
  • Throttle Valve Control Module (J338) dirty/faulty
  • Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Throttle Valve Control Module (J338)
  • Vacuum Leak
Possible Solutions
  • Check Throttle Valve Control Module (J338)
  • Check Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Throttle Valve Control Module (J338)
  • Check Intake System for Leaks
Special Notes
  • When found in the NAR 2.0T (BPY) check RVUTB: 01-09-03 or 2018919 for updated Crankcase Breather Valve
    • If the breather valve is faulty, full engine vacuum is typically found when removing the oil cap at idle.

Not sure how servicable the TBs are but they're not stupidly difficult to remove and clean.   Are all the pipes reconnected since fitting the PCV?

Do you have a VCDS or did the garage give you those codes? At 145k your car is going to have A LOT of carbon buildup on the valves if it hasn't been cleaned before.  This could account for a lot of the idling issues, and will certainly account for some of the P2015 errors. Chances the garage have fibbed and have not replaced the flaps inside, but have instead given them a quick clean.  How much did they charge for labour?  It is about 4-5 hours to remove the IM and refit so you'd be looking at £300+ easily.

It really sounds to me like they've forgotten to connect up a connector or hose.  IF they removed the whole IM there are a lot of connectors and hoses to remove so it's easy to forget some and some of the wires are very easy to damage. There ius a very thin wire that is near the metal bracket connecting the IM to the crank case which, if not very carefully disconnected and removed, can very easily snap said wire.

Also, no offense, please don't say "brought" instead of "bought" when referring to a purchase.  I see it all over the internet and it does my head in ha.

I had a shakey idle before I changed my PCV which was as bad as they could get at the time, still doing it now even with a new one

My cars at 98k so I'm wondering if its just the plugs need doing

Also I'm under the impression I can hear a slight backfire occasionally on every other shake

hmm, only other thing i can think of is a dodgy coil pack?

just had a bit of a read up it could be carbon build up in the intake valves, when on idle not enough air passes through them to cause a miss fire like symptom but once a bit of peddle is pressed, enough air is able to pass the valve for the engine to run smoothly. A fix is a big job with manifold removal and petrol additive will not clean it.

It is a big job indeed. Took me 3 days straight, but that involved fitting new injector seals, swapping fuel rails over to new intake.  If you're not replacing the IM, just removing it to clean then refitting it, you don't have to do this. Regardless, you will need 4 new injector seal kits at £8.50 each and the special tool to fit them (see my sig).

Here's my guide thread on the job:

The car is under warranty still so I think they are trying to sort it on the cheap !I'm not expecting brand new parts which obviously would be nice and they definitely didn't change the manifold because I'd scratched it underneath lol don't know what they did but no p2015 code but the idle/rpm still keeps coming on and engine vibrates loads. So Monday they are having back again to hopefully sort it . What I can't understand is why a brand new pcv valve would make the car run worst to the point of almost stalling? The strange thing is when I disconnected the pipe that runs from pcv to inlet manifold and put my thumb over the end the car started to idle properly ish again ?

well when i looked at mine when i took it off i found a lot of oil build up, perhaps yours is the same and its just burning through some muk because its actually working properly?

Thing is that I never looked at a pcv before so not sure what is bad condition or not ! There was a bit of oil inside the old one and wasn't sure how to tell if the rubber Seal inside (don't know the proper name ) the old one was knackered or not so got a new one which made the car run terrible so bizarre unless the new one is defective ! The frustrating thing is the garage don't listen to what I'm telling them regarding codes etc

well all i did was see if i could breathe through it lol, seeing as its a one way valve if its letting air in and out its completely knackered
