Looking at the ebay listing, major frontal damage.

seems front impact even when minor (air bags not going off) seem to BER quiet a few citigo / fabia even if only a year or too old?

 

is it the way the structure absorb the energy or just designed not to be cheaply fixed so you have to by a new one

 

my 4 year old roomster was written off the same way, 10-15mph shunt, classified cat D / BER, damage was bonnet, bumper, slam panel, radiators and headlight, minor little dent on front edge of wing from damaged healight, engine still ran, no airbags went off and no sign of any creases anywhere in the engine bay (bonnet still opened and closed easily) or underneath

 

is it just the repair side taking the **** with estimates or being able to make more from scraping the car for spares?

Could be spares availability too. The parts might be worth a fair bit, as there aren't many out there that are being scrapped. As such the economic proposition points more to scrapping the car and selling the bits.

If you think how much Skoda sell parts for it's well worth scrapping.
