Good afternoon all. Car desperatley needs an oil change but cannot get it into my regular garage till 28th May.

I have some brand new oil that i bought for my old car (shell Helix 5w-30) Would this be ok in my car for the time being till my car goes in for its service?

Car is 2011 2.0 Petrol Octavia vRS.

In the link you quoted does not write anywhere in the description if it has VW approval, check to the back of your oil canister if it writes anywhere that it has the VW approval. If it doesn't I wouldn't use it.

The oil you mentioned is not the correct oil for your car. You are looking for VW 504/507 spec. I think some 5w30 C3 formulas might be ok but you should look for the correct spec as mentioned.

 

I was just thinking of doing an oil change myself this weekend or next. I have been looking around at prices too.

Does he need 504/507, fixed service petrol can use 502 no?

Fixed service can indeed use 502 spec oil. Quantum Platinum 5w40 is the one you need. I used this on my Petrol VRS just 3 weeks ago. - 4.6L of Oil needed.

The old oil in my car was still perfectly fine as it had only done 3k miles over 6 months - I do it every 6 months regardless.
