Hi, 

 

Tried to find something with search but did not find similar symptoms

 

Octavia randomly does not start. Starter motor is running but fuel pump is not working. Fuel pump is not priming when opening door or turning ignition on.

I have changed fuel pump relay with no affect. It does this with both hot and cold engine.

 

Engine fault code 17705  intermittent, but i believe this doesnt have affect to starting.

hen it starts everything is working normally, doesnt cut off or anything. 

 

Havent checked if it really sparks, but I believe so as usually it will run for a second or two until theres no fuel left.

 

This morning it was not starting again, but when I took fuel pump relay off and put it back, fuel pump primed normally and it started right away...

 

 

Any ideas?

 

 

Edit: Just a note that "new" relay which I got from eBay was from year 2007 (in OEM package) did have marks in pins so I guess it could be possible that it was really a used one.

I would be looking at why the pump isn't priming when you open the door, that is more than likely the root cause of the problem. It's possible that the microswitches in the latch play a part in this, any other symptoms, eg alarm light not working by locking pin, interior lights not coming on, door open indicator on dash not working?

You could lift the rear seat and access the pump/sender unit and try running a 12v feed to it (be very careful though, make sure you know which wire you need) to confirm the pump is working ok.

Interior lights work, alarm light works when doors are locked. Have not been observing door open indicator, will check today.

Even when door microswitch would be faulty, shouldnt pump be priming when key is turned?

 

And if fuel pump would be faulty, shouldnt it cut off when driving? I have had no problems as soon ive got it running
