Soon to be a Superb III owner

Featured Replies

Hello and greetings from Turkey,

After our baby boy was born, our Golf MK5 was no longer enough, bootwise, and being a 12 year-old car, it didn't give me enough confidence on the road. So we decided to change our car, and here I am.

We placed our order for a Superb III Style (as far as I understand, UK spec names are different) TSI 1.4 150 manual transmission in business grey. we didn't want to get a color we didn't see in person. We didn't want a lot of extras (well, money issues), so only ACC, Park Assist (mostly because this will be a very big "upgrade" after the Golf, and so that my wife feels more comfortable, if needed), and also rear airbags. The dealer said the production week will be W23, and the model year shows as MY17, so unless something comes up, it'll be with the latest updates.

The reason I wanted a Superb was that it's a VAG car, so it's quite familiar. I like the design, and alternatives are either too ugly or over our budget.

As it probably happens with everyone else, I read a lot of negative things (along with positive ones of course) and the rattle etc is scaring me. We'll see I guess.

Anyways, so this was mostly a stream of consciousness type of introduction :)

Hi there and welcome to the forum!  You will naturally tend to find slightly more negative issues arising on a forum like this and that the whole point of a forum.  I wouldn't be too concerned about some of the problems that you read about on here as they will usually only represent a small portion of cars.  Remember, the vast majority of owners probably never contribute to a car forum so you don't get to hear all the positive reviews.  Anyway, if there are any major problems, they will largely be sorted early on especially on MY17 models.  Good luck with the new car :)

Hi Radiognome and Welcome to the forum.

AS Superb 170 says, there are very few complaints as people only report problems and not satisfactions.

I have had mine for 5 months and done 21.000 miles (33500Km) and it does not rattle at all. the car is well loaded most of the time and it is a pleasure to drive. I have no complaints whatsoever about this great car. Don't worry, just enjoy the ride.

Hello and thanks for the warm welcome,

Of course I am aware that one will mostly find complaints on forums, but still, buying a car is not a small decision :)

The new car will be 60 cm (24 inches) longer than my golf.. First time i will ever drive such a big car.. Lets see how it will go!

Hello and Welcome aboard!

Cheers,
Ste.

I have also ordered new Superb!

Don't worry about your purchase of a Skoda, they are great cars, I have had mk1, mk2 and mk3 Octavia's and they have been brilliant, now waiting for a Superb 220 tsi!

You'll find it odd at first but once you are used to it small cars feel horrible.
