Turbos blew

Featured Replies

As above my turbo blew Saturday evening while shifting in to 2nd around 20mph, at first I though it was a boost pipe but the tell tail sign was white smoke coming from the engine bay and the engine was stuggling to breath.. anyway I got round to removing it today only took an hour and the cold side of the turbo was completely broken off, no sign of any impella fragments anywere,so hopefully it flew on the road

edit: sorry half of my post is missing.Could this be an oil seal.what's gone? The exhaust side of the turbo is really stiff with lots of resistance and it's.scraping against the housing.

I'm just aftwr finding a possible cause before fitting a new hybrid turbo on the weekend so I wouldn't like it go bang after its been Installed

I imagine that the shaft is bent, throw it away and fit a new one with a nice new oil feed pipe.

A new one won't go pop just because the old one did.

Thanks for the reply, i changed the oil feed pipe 3 months ago as the old one was leaking, I'm just thinking if the oil is circulating properley before i fit the new turbo. I'm guess without the turbo fitted to the car I can crank the engine to see if the oil is flowing from the oil feed pipe.. tomorrow's job is cleaning all pipework/intercooler, and changing the oil and filter.. don't fancy blowing 400 quid up

From what I can see online theres no real difference. Might be wrong though

I guess if it's a hybrid it will come down to whatever company that made it has put into it.
