Auto 2.5 V6 2007

Featured Replies

Afternoon all.

I am currently thinking about buying a 2007 2.5 V6 Auto Comfort and I was wondering what peoples opinions are on this gearbox. Is it the CVT/DSG (what ever they are called, the ones with variable ratios.  :D ) gearbox if so how hard is it to get used to, is it a worthy gearbox? Any ideas on what I should look out for in this car? Personal and factual opinions are very well.

Many thanks

Ben Bridgeman.

Can someone please move this post to mk1 superb, my mistake, sorry!!

It's just a normal 5 speed torque converter auto.

They're pretty reliable in general but can cause problems from time to time like any gearbox.

They are "sealed for life" in terms of oil but usually benefit from an oil change at some point.

In terms of the car itself... check the carpets are dry! The MK1 suffers quite badly from water ingress. Usually from the windscreen where it gets the computer wet.

on the Mk1 s water comes in from the pollen filter and destroys the convenience control unit.

There will be loads of threads about resealing them worth doing anyway as a precaution anyway..

Look here Baker done a good write up of it..

It's the type 01V automatic - they're made by ZF and the ZF part number is 5HP19. They can suffer 5th gear failures but they're generally solid enough. The car is based on the VW Passat B5 so it'll share that cars issues.

One of them as mentioned is the water ingress. The main thing to make sure there is that the drain hole in the scuttle tray is kept clear of debris - leaves can gather in there and block it and it's when it fills up with water that you get water coming through the pollen filter.

The front suspension has 8 control arms and the balljoints can wear out in those. You'll get clunking on bumps and potholes if that happens.
