After purchase follow up call

Featured Replies

Hi,

Had my S3 just over 5 weeks now and apart from a call 24 hours after I took delivery of the car I have heard nothing else from the dealer.  I would have expected a call after about a fortnight or at the four week point to see if everything was all right or am I expecting to much.  Going on my experience of Mercedes I consider myself lucky to have had the call after 24 hours.

Could not fault the service manager at Mercedes but the sales team were dire.

Haven't yet purchased S3 but the Audi dealer didn't give me any call and the same went for Skoda dealer after buying Octavia II RS. But I really don't need any phone harassing anyway so not a problem. I think that the Audi dealer did send me an email asking was I happy (which I was). Skoda didn't do that either.

I can't recall getting a phone call off the Skoda dealer after taking delivery of my car (it was over two years ago, mind) but I had a phone call off Sinclair Mercedes this week asking was i happy with the new car and the buying process, at which point I let two barrels go at the dealership I bought it from.

I had a follow up call a week after purchase but got the impression it was a dealer process rather than manufacturer.

Don't see the point really? If there's a problem I'll get in touch, I'm not going to sit around hoping someone calls and says 'is everything ok?"

Yes, it's a dealer process, but appears to be something expected of them by Skoda UK.

I had a call from the dealer about two weeks after picking up the car.

A few weeks later I received a satisfaction survey through the post from Skoda UK (with the option to do it online) and one of the questions was whether I'd received any follow-up contact from the dealer.

It was the exact same process I went through when I bought my Superb II in 2011.

Skoda never call. BMW do it every time.

Mixed bag then really.

I am ex motor trade, starting as a salesman the progressing to sales manager. I have worked at Toyota, Honda, Citroen and Volvo dealerships and we always made "follow up calls" (AKA Courtesy Calls or Cuddle Calls!).

I'm a firm believer these should happen. You have recently made the second most expensive purchase you have ever made (or if you are as old as me, when houses were less expensive, the most expensive purchase ever made) and a courtesy call lets the customer know that the salesman and dealer care.

When on the sales floor I never missed a followup call and they were always appreciated -  The only exception was when I rang and asked a lady how she was enjoying her new Toyota Corolla, she said she didn't have a new Corolla. I apologized and said I must have rung the wrong number, - The next day her husband rang and explained the car was for "a lady friend" and she really loved it. - He did ask me to change the phone number and address for any letters and calls from the dealership to go to his office!

That's brilliant, thank you for sharing that story.

It’s good PR, SWMBO had one from Allams about a week after collecting her Yeti, asking if everything was OK and if she had any questions about the car.

What I find more annoying is when YOU have to constantly chase up a dealer for updates (service done / warranty work completed / parts have arrived in for warranty work)

For me, this will determine if I continue to use them or switch to another dealer.

I received a follow up call from my dealer today. Terrific service from Nick at Ridgeway Reading.
