FOUND IT!

Right been searching furiously for 30 min and have found the ad for it from in here! Get onto this guy as he did get it sold last Nov here, he will know if there was anything untoward up with it or anything dodgy and should have no issue telling you. Says he sold to a mate and it's done 9K more miles since, so less suspicious looking now.

Thanks Fubar, just sent him a PM regarding the car to see if he's got any further information. It does make it look less dodgy though. Well done for finding the topic.

Good point about the inspection at a Skoda dealer, I do wonder what it would cost.

The threat of it can sometimes be enough lol. If I was travelling that distance, I'd make it clear in no uncertain terms that if the person had wasted my time, I would be 'upset'.  :bandit:

That's very true.

I think I'll wait to see if the previous owner gets back to me and then decide what to do.

Some interesting stories above lads, glad I'm not the only one willing to drive a fair few miles for the right car.

Still looking into it, definitely reckon I'd be better off driving to Dublin and getting the ferry from there Sweeperman? Thanks for the offer of checking the car out too, worst thing would be to fly there and then the car isn't as described!

if it were my choice thats what I would do, via dublin and down, its the scottish road thats the real testing drive from cairnryan. Pictures can look great but in the flesh a car can be not quite as nice. Id have no issue looking for anyone at a car over here, im not a mechanic but ive enough knowledge about cars to spot a skip job and also the seller and location can tell lots about a car. It really would need to be mega cheap or super rare though, our cars are way overpriced compared to your side.

Down to it being a smaller market i.e. fewer for the buyer to chose from?

it is a smaller market, also the choice wouldnt be the same, the chances of gettig the spec you want would be slim. My vRS i bought from Brum worked out about £1400 less than a comparable one if I could find in the same spec and age etc over here. Also in general, cars arent looked after quite so well, apart from enthusiasts and the car wise, a service is almost optional. As well, there isnt the same motorway network so you can be quite sure most have been used on back roads, and city driving much more tiring on a car than motorway blasting you get to do ;) Im sure there will be those who will throw their arms up in the air and say im sooooo wrong, but having worked 15 years in the trade, driven for a living for over 25 I dont look through rose tinted glasses. The last 4 cars ive bought have been across the water, two in newcastle, one in taunton and one from Brum. All down to choice, value and quaity

Ah okay cool, I'm going to wait and see if the previous owner gets back to me. If I do decide to go for it I'll definitely ask you to have a look at it prior to me making the journey. Thanks for the offer.

Good to know which route would be the most recommended too, I've never even been to Northern Ireland!

The strange thing is that it seems to be priced very well compared to similar age / mileage Fabia's in England.

Done Sheffield - Belfast via Holyhead-Dublin, Cairnryan-Belfast and Birkenhead-Belfast and I'd agree with the above - Dublin is probably the easiest and best from you in Kent...

The age old NI car ad phrase / seal of approval 'Just out of England' LOL Average person's annual mileage in NI is significantly higher than in GB also which doesn't help at all :( For me a car that's been living around Lisburn - Belfast - Ards is the better choice when shopping within NI due to having the best roads in the country. Down my neck of the woods.... FML! If you don't have any compassion for a car it's scrap by 5 years old! Treat it right and can keep most things going for ever. My 15 year old Mk1 Octy is about to hit 60K miles, 1 prev owner from new from Newtownabbey bought as he retired I got it 2 years ago with 42K on it garaged from new, that sort of car is non existent around here sadly.

Of course the famous straight out of england phrase lol. Id not buy a car over here that said that, and youre right certain areas the style of driving car vary greatly, id be very wary of buying a car with miles on it over here, Across the water, the chances of a car having being driven mostly on motorways is higher, especially if you find its been owned very close to a motorway link. Ive just sold my A4 with 190k on it, full service history (by me from 100k) car needed nothing just got old, came with a folder of every penny and receipt id spent on it and bloke who bought it, still wouldnt believe it was honest! Thought id made it up. Cars over here just arent treated like that. I went into Mervyn Stewart Skoda dealer to get a few dash screws and asked at service reception how much a dsg oil change would be, she didnt know, hadnt done one in years! They dont tell people to get it done, even recommend it, they mention it but its very few and far between get it done at the 40k intervals. Ive just done mine today myself, easy with vcds and the tool, wasnt bad as it was just needing done at the 40k interval and had been done before, but having spoke to a couple of independent mechanics I know, most say their customers just drive it till it stops then complains.

I sold my 2011 CRTDI Octy vRS here to Charles Hursts car buyer service, as folk didn't believe a car just under 3 years old only had 27K miles on it... FML can't be bothered dealing with such folk. So you have VCDS btw???? :D

Never had it myself, but plenty of knowledge on the forum from other users here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/23-diagnostics-vcds/

There is a members map somewhere for people willing to assist others etc.
