Twitchy steering

Featured Replies

Hoping some of you guys on here can help out. I've noticed the last few days my steering seems rather twitchy now that I have wound the boost back upto 2.5bar.

If I let off the revs around the 3k mark and then apply throttle again, the car seems to pull to the right. I can feel the car pulling and wandering all over the road when under throttle. The car is fitted with an LSD. It kinda feels like you are hitting a pool of standing water.

I have recently had the front suspension in bits and replaced the top mounts, top mount bearings and new droplinks also.

The car is powerflexed on the front end aswell.

Could a knackered engine mount cause these issues as the gearbox mount seems to have a bit of play in it?

Silly question but have you had the tracking done since fitting the car back together.

Also have you had new tyres put on. I had some fitted a few years ago and the car was all over the road until the tread blocks wore down a bit.

I haven't no as I haven't removed the track rod ends or the ball joints which could alter the geometry in any way, just refitted the polybushes that was removed and fit it all back together.

Tyres are the same part worn ones as was fitted beforehand so don't think its tyres, even checked all the pressures and they was fine.

The car feels like its hitting standing water when it does it.

Could a worn engine mount cause the pulling?

So are these same tyres actually decent tyres up to a car with a bit of performance?

Can you borrow a pair of wheels with good tyres and try them on before setting off on the big hunt to rid the car of twichyness.?

I'm running Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE002, not exactly cheap tyres but not the most expensive either. I ran them before my engine blew up running 264bhp and had no issues with this twitchyness so I'm ruling out a tyre issue tbh

They do not last for ever. you run them they get older, you run them sportingly they can become shagged..

Ruling out simple things without checking can be an expensive mistake.

Id get the geometry double checked first of all.

Yes an engine mounting could cause torque steer.

Mines twitchy under hard acceleration or on tram lines/odd camber.

Everything has been replaced (hence the nickname Triggers broom) except the steering rack, which i found to be leaking, check your track rod boots for any oil as you could be in the same position as me.
