Worth buying kw v1 inox

Featured Replies

I've got an 05 vrs which I've had for 3 years now and have eventually made my mind up which suspension I want but the car is old now

What do you guys think

If so where is the best place

Thanks sam

I've had AP's on for the past 9/19 months and decided to upgrade and it was well worth it, really comfy and the handling is amazing

You get what you pay for, the AP's are good compared to the cheaper coilovers but they can be a little harsh on bad roads, especially with the rear adjusters removed which most people do and being quite low on the front as well

I have the Weitecs which are situated between Ap and KW and they are superb so I can only imagine the Kw's are even better.

Try awesome gti or the site sponsors such as dpm performance, I'd imagine they will be as cheap as anywhere else.

As echoed above really. KW are excellent, have you looked in Pb coilovers? I'm going for them when I deicide to replace my AP'S

Thanks for the info and suggestions I just don't want to be paying into a money pit in the near future if you get what u mean

As I say I have spent a lot of time deciding which ones I want

I think I might just bite the bullet

But will have a look at the pb ones you recommend as I've not seen nor heard of

And Harry thanks for your side to side comparison of the ap and kw as it was going to be between the two

KW V1's are a fantastic bit of kit! I run them and know a few people that do. We all really rate them.

I might get a rarb and do it all at the same time I've read up about the jabba ones and white line are they the same or is one better

I'd say the KW V1 kit is one of the best all round options available.

Let me know if you need any info or prices.

Stevo I had a look at those pb coilovers they are tempting for the top mounts but do you know if the fabia ones are adjustable? Gonna give them a call tomorrow anyway

They also have adjustable dampers

But so little reviews for the fabia

BC coilovers are highly rated by unit 18.

Well stevo I thought I had decided but now you have got me stumped with the bc

Keep all the travel when lowered

Damper adjustable

Kw

stainless

Not damper adjustable

And loose travel when lowered

EVERYTHING loses travel when lowered, it's an inherent problem of the suspension geometry, it requires much harder damping to cope with the reduced travel since there is so little distance available in which to apply that damping, this ALWAYS leads to a firmer ride and can get crashy on B roads.

The bc kit is adjusted from the lower part of the shock body but can also be adjusted at the base of the spring for preload

That's what it says in its description

But also says that these features aren't available to all models

I'm currently in the same boat (well similar) on either AP coilovers or D2 (look like rebranded BC/K-Sport)

AP - £400ish - Not damping adjustable

D2 - £640ish - Damping and no loss of travel

I've just sold a micra 1.3 super s with D2 coilovers on I know it's a completely different car but they were hard

Strange because on the Pulsar Forum the BC's and D2's are considered to be more budget minded i would have thought the KW's would be better.

On a side note if the BC's are any good then I may well get a set for the Pulsar. As far as I know you can purchase the D2's/BC's with adjustable spring rates, the Pulsar boys go with a very low spring rate I think it's 5kg on the front and 4 kg on the rear otherwise they can be very harsh.

As regards the D2 I can't say any more than that but after all a micra is a very light car in comparison to a fabia and Pulsar

However I have just spoke to a chap that sells bc's and kw's

He told me the bc are a great kit (the best seller)

And a like for like in kw would be the v2 but you have to pay alot more and you still reduce height via spring perch

Yeah I'm just looking for through the Pulsar Forum and quite a few are saying Bc's are good for the money a bit better than D2 for uk support but then again we are very limited for choice for suspension kits so their is very little choice. I'm certain that you can request spring rates on the BC's at least I know for sure we can with the pulsar, might be worth a little look into, like I said the lads on the Pulsar forum recommended 5's at the front and 4 on the rears.

This is what the guy selling them on the Pulsar forum said about the Bc's

Softer john, the lesser the weights the softer the ride

I find the 6kg springs far too harsh for road use and even on a smooth track they are too hard even with rebound on a low setting.
The springs over ride the damping ability so in effect you just as we'll have lumps of wood wedged under there lol
5kg springs on front work much better with 4 on rears
If just a road car you could even go 4s front and maybe 3s rear but never tried those weight springs before

Alright thanks for the info on the bc that's good to know and I will speak to the chap about different spring rates what's front axle weight on the Pulsar and are we talking 4x4 ar front wheel drive ones

Also another thing to watch out for on the D2 is rust on the threads I had a nightmare with ming but they may have changed their coating since

Yeah talking about the pulsar it has a lower weight of about 1250kg but like the Fabia it's a little front heavy due to the transfer box from 4wd system being bolted onto the side of the gearbox.

Just thought I'd give you a heads up as I'm sure your be a little annoyed if you fit it and it turns out to be really harsh. On a side note do you have to go coil over? I'm sure you can get more for your money if you went shocks and springs.

  • Author

I don't have to go coilovers but I'm fitting some wheels and like the adjustability of getting the ride height bang on as there will be tweaking necessary where as dampers and bolt on items and can do anything apart from getting a short set for the rear and purchasing some rear adjusting mounts

Didn't get chance to speak to the chap today so will try tomorrow and will ask what spring rate the kw are and compare to the 6f/4r for the bc and while I'm on the phone I will ask about the ap's and D2 for some reference
