Wheel care advice

Featured Replies

Hi,

New to all this. Looking to keep my 2016 Monte Carlo wheels in top nick. They are the black 16s with diamond cut rim (can't remember what they are actually called).

I went out and bought some Autoglym wheel cleaner, but got it home to realise it suggests on the packet a gentler product for more fancy rims. Is this the case?

Haven't got a great deal of cash to throw at it, but what cleaner/wax/sealer etc would be easiest/cheapest?!

Thanks

Your autoglym wheel cleaner should be fine for your wheels as for a sealant I highly recommend ez car care wheel seal, spray on buff off to give a nice glossy finish and protects/beads well and its not too expensive.

Look at purchasing something like Gtechniq C5 then your life will be alot easier afterwards to maintain them

Once you've sealed them, you will only need to use Shampoo on them to keep them looking tip top, then when they start to look like they need a deep clean or the sealant is starting to fail, out with the wheel cleaner again and re-seal.

Good advice above.....

Some points on the wheel cleaner side..... might help:-

1. If you think its too strong; you can dilute it.

2. As it is summer - watch surface temps - try and wash the car in the shade.

3. Again due to time of year - dont leave products to dwell too long before rinsing.

As Mark says above - EZ car care wheel sealant is a doddle to use; or FK1000P as a good alround alloy and paint wax.

Also - perhaps you already have Sonax BSD in your kit - its a great topper for alloy protection on a weekly routine.
