Larger tires from OEM

Featured Replies

Hi!

Does someone have larger tires than the original? Can it be a problem?
Tires can be too wide and that extends out of the fender or that bother some parts?
I currently have 225/50/17. I'd like to put 235/45/17 or 245/45/17.
I have OEM alu ET 45. Car is Yeti 2.0, 110hp 4x4.

Here you see that someone put 245/45/17:

At Tyre Calculator is the difference between 225/50/17 and 235/45/17 small. So diameter is fine. The tires in these two dimensions almost the same.

http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=225&aspect=50&diameter=17&wheelwidth=6.5&offset=45&width2=235&aspect2=45&diameter2=17&wheelwidth2=6.5&offset2=45&Submit=Calculate#content

According to the law in my country, I can enter dimensions differently than recommended by Skoda.

Price for 4 tires in dimension 235 is 100 EUR cheaper then 225 (OEM).

Thank you very much,

Marko

The 235 / 45 would be the better of the two larger options

You also need to take into consideration the width of the rim I'm sure a 245 tyre needs to be mounted on a 8&1/2" wide rim

Thank you.

I have Dolomite 7.0J x 17”.

So 235 / 45 can be install without a problem?

Anyone? :)

Use this website to understand the differences of different sized tyres...

http://www.willtheyfit.com/#isPage=1

It will tell you how much closer to the suspension strut the tyre will be, you can then measure it yourself and check to see if it will interfere with the suspension, wheelarch liner or inner wing.

The profile of the Yeti (and Octavia Scout) tyres are tailored for a higher profile to contribute to the ride height and off road capabilities. What is behind the desire the fit lower profile and wider tyres?

Here is a Scout (same size wheels and tyres as the Yeti Dolomites) with 18" lower profile and wider tyres / wheels from the VW Passat Alltrack...

Well, for first is a price. Tyres in 235/45 are 100EUR chepear then 225/50, for 4 tyres.
Second, wider tyeres will look nicer, and Yeti will be lower for few mm :)

So why not combine two good things. I thing it is not a big difference.

I have 215/60/17 for winter. I got it OEM with car.

Winter is time when I have little bit off road and when I need bigger ground clearence, which is 200 mm (20 mm more by 215/60/17).

I have no problems with handling, and mechanic said that everything is O.K. with suspension etc.
