Just purchased a 2001 Fabia 1.4 Comfort 2001 reg with 19k miles

 

The drivers door has a bar at the bottom which goes into the front wing

 

This "clicks" when the door is opened  - and the door will not stay in a half or full opening position

 

This only applies to the drivers door and not the others

 

Any suggestions as to how this can be addressed - short of replacing the entire bar  (if that is the correct name for it ) ?

It's called a stay.

There's a single spline-head bolt that comes loose sometimes and causes a noise. Can't remember if it attaches the check-stay to the body or the door, but you can't miss it.  M8 bit I think. Edit, door-end, I'm pretty sure.

Thanks to you both - check stay being the correct description

If it turns out you need a new one they are part number 6Y0837249F (front doors).

(still waiting to replace mines)
