Drove a Honda Jazz today!

Featured Replies

Well.... What a bloody car! I tried to find one fault with it.... damn well couldn't. Ok, apart from the price.

It was an SE trim level, 1.4 engine with auto box (7.. SEVEN speeds....) Got to take it on a little test drive with Mum in the car, with me pretending I was learning again to get an idea from her perspective.

Not much to say - box was smooth as anything, probably due to the 7 speeds. It pulled fairly well for a 1.4 and was as a real pleasure to take for a spin.

Got Mum tempted to buy it there and then, but we've held back and going to check out a couple of Micras tomorrow on a 54 and 05 plates, both cheaper by some way than the 03 Jazz. If the Micra feels anything close to the Jazz it could be that she buys. :D

We drove one when we got the Missus' car - like you said, bloody nice car, just a shame it's a class above in price!

Found the 1.4 to be a bit slow though.,(They also do a 1.2 which is even slower) though it was the manual.

How great are those seats - they had one with 2 mountain bikes in the back set up as a visual demo - amazing use of space

You going to buy one?

Edit: You'll be very disappointed with the Micra. :(

But the question is..... would you buy a Jazz or a non-VRS Fabia ?

I'm thinking of getting one to replace the fabia.

Auto box is no good for learning in unless you only want a licence to drive automatic cars

Fabia is too big for her, even being as small as it is. :) Needs to be something even smaller to be honest. Testing two auto Micras tonight @ 5.3 - one is a 1.4SE, the other a 1.2S. The new micra seems highly rated and even if I don't like it as much, I have to think of my "no frills needed" Mum who's car it will be (and how easy it is to learn in)

Micra is cheaper to insure as well. :)

No thrills?

Suzuki Alto?

She could have a top spec, brand new one and change for the price of those 2nd hand ones...

i really like these and even think they look quite good.

definately worth looking into IMO.

Or howabout a Kia Picanto? Very cheap, and reputedly fairly cheerful.

Though I guess a lot depends on the proximity of dealerships and that...

Suzuki Alto was ruled out on a crap write-up in WhatCar. Swift is still a highly rated possibility though, along with the Yaris / maybe the Verso? She was warned off the Kia by someone else, and she said the Daihatsus were ugly (never even left the car. ) and the Mitsu Colts were't up to much.

I hope she likes the Micra enough, so I don't need to trawl around the garages again. :D

Shame you can't buy a Daewoo any more, i had a microwave made by them and it was really good.

You can buy Daewoo vehicles!

Daewoo was rebadged to Chevrolet (no clue why  )

The Micra sounds like a perfect candidate, they are reliable and cheap to run, esp. if you're after a small car :)

I did my driving course at work in a Jazz 1.3 manual. It was a fairly pleasant car to drive around, although I felt it lacked torque badly. Evidently the 1.4 is better. I must admit though, that it was a nice little car to drive!

It wasn't the car purchased though - None of these cars had any torque to be honest - one thing I'd say is bad about all small petrols. But then its a totally different car, so I can't grumble.

Whoops, just checked, it's the same engine. The instructor told me it was a 1.3. I think that part of the problem is that we get used to having diesel torque in our cars, so even what would be considerd a torquey petrol seems feeble. That's what I've found, anyway.

:iagree: Seems sometimes we Skoda drivers get too used to the luxury of having pretty darn quick motors.
