New Yeti owner - Error: Airbag

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I picked my new Yeti 1.4 L&K up on Friday and love it to bits. However, after driving it home (50 miles or so) an error appeased in the MFD "error: Airbag" along with the airbag warning light. I returned it to the dealer the following day who have said that the airbag control unit is faulty and have ordered a replacement (apparently it is paired to the chassis so can't use an off the shelf item). They told me it is unsafe to drive as the airbag may not deploy in the event of a crash (fair enough). As I've only had the car for a few hours I was worried that this may be a common fault but I can't see any evidence of this on the forums. Has anyone seen/heard of this before?

Please go easy on me as it's my first post

Not heard of this error in the past but I'm sure others will post.

Welcome to the forum.

I haven't heard of this either.  The last time I saw an airbag fault it was a broken wire to the passenger seat occupancy sensor (Ford Fiesta, not Yeti).

Happened to a friend of mine years ago on a BMW he owned turned out to be a loose wire in a connector under the passenger seat, BMW grage wanted £250 to diagnostic the car and then repair idependent BMW garage did the job for £40.

Would like more info on this paired to the chassis answer from the garage if you can find out, seems a very complecated way to control something that should be fixed BY an off the shelf new item

I've not heard of this either. I hope the dealer has given you a suitable loan car?

@OldFred - Kind of. They gave us a Fabia Estate, good job as we had a boot full of stuff when we got to the dealers!

From the replies I'm getting the feeling that this is a one off. I certainly hope so anyway. I'm more worried about it being an indication of a bigger issue or a regular occurrence.

I think you should not be worried, it's been diagnosed and will get fixed then you can get on and enjoy a great car.

^ What ernieb said.

I think you're our first angry Yeti.  Most seem to be quite amiable - frolicsome, even ;)

Don't let the name fool you, I'm actually quite a relaxed fella really

I got a call from the dealer today to say it's all fixed and ready to collect. Looking forward to getting behind the wheel again.

Picked the car up today and it's all fixed.

I was told it was caused by a run off from the AC being dislodged which caused water to drop on the airbag control unit, shorting it out. Good to know the root cause.
