Phone button one steering wheel not working

Featured Replies

The button on my steering wheel with a phone on doesn't do anything, but had a Rapid Spaceback as a courtesy car yesterday with the same button and this one did work.

When I press mine, it just says 'telephone not available' whether the phone is connected or not, any ideas?

What phone? and is it connected by USB cable or bluetooth or both?

iPhone 6 connected by Bluetooth.

As I said, the courtesy car I had yesterday (Rapid Spaceback SE Sport), this button tried making a connection to a paired phone when it was pressed, mine doesn't!

Try to reset the telephone and the bluetooth to factory settings and reconnect your phone again

Yep as long as your bluetooth connection is properly set, check the bluetooth settings on the phone, when you press this button, its a shortcut into the phone screen, which shows the phone name, signal, battery and network etc.

If you then press it again, it shows your call list and you can use the roller button to select and dial a number.

Worse case, delete the Bluetooth connection for your phone in the system, and then reconnect it again.

However you might as well just ask Siri to dial people for you?

Doesn't Siri only work at any decent pace when you have reasonable internet signal?

Just tried deleting the pairing from the car and the phone and reconnect but still no joy, bloody thing!

What year is your Octavia? Does it have a Bolero or Amundsen radio?

Has the connection ever worked? Do you have another phone you can try and get it working with, then we know if its a fault with the car or your phone?

Your car radio might need an update to work with iPhone 6 which uses Bluetooth 4.

Think its a common problem:

Consider it a built in safety & money saving feature.

Or a hint that your car wants you to go Android.

I have the Columbus in it.

I have the latest software downloading too so hopefully this update will resolve it.

Installed the latest software on to the Columbus over the weekend but this still hasn't resolved anything :wall:

Know anyone who has an android phone?

Try pairing it with the car and see what happens.

There is an update for the Bluetooth but it says for cars between 03/2015 and 04/2015. Would this be when the software was loaded or the date the car was registered (mine was registered in 09/2015)

Other software

BluetoothVersion Only for cars 03/2015 - 04/2015 ! (318.00KB)

There was a question earlier if it was ever working before or not?

Did you try the factory reset on the unit though? Only phone and bluetooth

Its never worked, I will try a factory reset on the whole Columbus unit.

Still boils my pi$$ that the so called top system (Columbus) doesnt read out texts like my 6 year old Altea with the Amundsen equivalent did!

Reset the unit completely last night but still hasn't resolved the issue!

Columbus reads out texts. "The text can be read out by the device's generated voice" (Bottom right of page 52 of the Columbus manual).

I don't think a reset is any good because it didn't work when it came out of the factory. I think you need a particular software update. Instead of trying to do it yourself, perhaps a dealer can do it for you. It's a warranty thing surely so you shouldn't be charged.

Is there a newer update after this? If there is I would download both, try this and if its not good then update it with the newer version. If still doesn`t work just take it in as the car is still under warranty

I will ask when the car goes back in under warranty anyway for the dash to come out as there is a really annoying rattle from the central speaker area.
