Front radar!

Featured Replies

Hey guys, need help or just a second answer. Talked to a service guy at skoda here in Sweden. My question was if a could wrap or plastidip the radarcover in the center grill. He's answer was that the radar is actually behind the skoda emblem on the bonnet. So I could do whatever I wanted whit the grill without malfunction the acc as long as I didn't do anything with the emblem. Could it actually be so. Do you think he's right?

No he's wrong it is in the centre of the grille

Try this: http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/SUPERB-III/Superb-III-original-Skoda-radar-hole-cover-BLACK

Think he perhaps means it's under the emblem in terms of location and by default operates out of the black smooth section on the grille.

I think other marque's have it cleverly hidden behind the emblem (Mazda?) but you can see the section where it is on the front grille in the middle. Some of the YouTube reviews refer to it too.

I asked him specifically if it was behind the radar cover. So I guess I'll just have to try wrapping it. Will be nerv wrecking to try the acc after. Will it slam on the brakes as son as I enable it...?

Why don't you try some tape (masking, duct) over the cover first? The tape will be thicker than a dip or vinyl wrap so if it acts up with tape on it you know it's a no go.

The radars behind the rear bumper have no issue functioning behind 5mm of plastic.

I will try that and hit the acc on a empty road!

If the radar is covered you will get an error message in the maxidot and you wont be able to enable ACC.

Got it a few times in the winter when the radar got clogged with snow.

So no need to test in the middle of nothing.

Sweet, no worries then!

Vinyl should not cause a problem. It's not a radio wave (radar) reflective material.

Water is reflective - and water reflection is why a build-up of snow, dense fog or a torrential rainfall causes problems for the low-power ACC radar.

Just to ask?

Which service center here in Sweden the technician have no clue what he is talking about.

In the car manuals it show clearly where is the radar sensor and it is the plain shiny part in the middle of the front grill .

Behind the emblem would be quite a problem for the radar to work behind a metal sheet of the hood :D

I would not recommend such a service center to even touch my car.
