Intermittent whirring, groaning Octavia 4x4

Featured Replies

Hiya,

I have heard ggod things about you guys on this forum so hope you can help?

I have got a 51 plate Skoda Octavia 1.8t 4x4 estate with about 100,000. I absolutely love it but it seems to have a problem.

There is an intermittent groaning / whirring which seems to come from the front half of the car. I first noticed it when a came off the throttle and the car was slowing down with engine breaking. It also does it when I am in neutral.

I was hoping that someone has experience of this or any suggestions as to what it may be and what it might costs to fix?

Many thanks

Could be a wheel bearing. Have you had anything checked yet?

I'd say it's gearbox related, if you engage the clutch does the noise die down a bit?

I'm hoping that it is the wheel bearing.

No change whether in gear or not. Noise increases with speed.

Fingers crossed!

Is it only whilst moving?

If so is it worse turning left or right?
