Cambelt change

Featured Replies

Can anybody out there recommend an independant garage to do a cam belt and water pump change on my VRS - SW Herts area.

Thanks

Here you are. give Ali a mail and although it's about 50 mile ( based on a guess at where you are), you'll get a pleasant surprise on maindealer prices(and service).

Thanks guys, have emailed them and am just waiting for the quote.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thought I'd post this in here seen as it's kind of relevant.

I've been pricing up a cambelt change on the VRS (PD) this week. I called an independent VAG specialist local to me (Wilsons - Rhuddlan, North Wales) and they charge £330 all in for belt, pump inc labour and VAT. Was expecting it to be more than that, nearer the £500 mark if truth be told.

I've tried calling Lightcliffe Skoda in North Wales who are a main VAG dealership just for a quote, but they're a nightmare to get hold of and the receptionist woman is rude.

Finally I gave my local garage a call who do most of my work and they are charging £303 all in, 2.8 hrs labour so not too bad really and a tad less than the independent place.

Just thought I'd share the prices on here as it always helps if someone is trying to get a rough idea of cost as it's quite a big job.

The belt change itself is pretty easy, only need two locking tools which are cheap to buy.

It's the lack of space for hands/tools between eng and chassis leg which make it awkward as the engine mount has to come out.

The garage are still making a decent rate at circa £200 for 2.8 hours work!

One thing I would Deffo recommend is getting a new aux belt fitted at the same time,as it's off anyway it won't cost you any more labour to have a new one fitted :)
