2.0 TDI 150hp - torsion beam or multilink && other questions for L&K

Featured Replies

Hi all,

as the subject shows I would like to get confirmation for the rear suspension of 2.0 TDI Octavia MK3 150hp.

As I've read it's torsion beam.

Is it right that multi-link is :

1. it's more expensive to fix

2. more stable in cornering

3. alignment is more complex

4. is more comfortable

In general I wanted 1.8 TSI but can't wait 6 months for a car, this is insane. So looking to buy a new already ordered by the dealer.

5. Also - can the KESSY be deactivated to prevent easy stealing? Or at least limitted by range?

6. Is Amundsen totally unuseful option?

7. isn't it 18" too much for Octavia? Are the 16" enough as handling?

The 150 TDi is torsion beam. I have no problems with the handling at all on my combi. However the ride as standard is firm. This can be mitigated by swapping the rear shocks for those from a Mk7 Golf, the one with the same torsion beam suspension. It is a really easy swap, a couple of bolts, no special tools. These shocks have softer damping and improve the ride significantly without affecting the handling noticeably. I got a pair from eBay for a very reasonable price, if you do searches on the forum you should be able to find more information on this.

I can't comment on the Amundsen as I have the Columbus and i love it and find it very useful.

Mine has the 18" Golus wheels with low profile tyres and they are fine but do contribute to the firm ride (again relieved by the shock swap as above)

Thanks for the info and the ideas

Multi link gives a noticeable better ride, the biggest improvement is cornering - steering feedback goes from numb to quite good.

18's are fine, I have Golus with sports suspension and it's quite firm but not Audi S Line firm.

Amundsen is ok, a little slow, the MIB2 unit has a larger screen which makes it much better.  Not a bad unit but compared to a brand new £200 Garmin or Tom Tom it's woeful, at least it's always there if you need it.

I suggest taking the ride with torsion beam and multilink through some corners with bumps, the backend of you car will feel much more planted with multilink version.
