Chrome Trim 'watermarked'

Recommended Posts

I got the car a couple of months ago from a dealer and about 10 days later put it in for a Gtechniq coating at an authorised dealer.

When I got the car back he pointed out some marks on the chrome around the door windows and advised I contact SKODA.

The marks look like condensation was on the chrome when it was lacquered (or whatever they do) and is not really visible except if you look for it at the correct angle in the correct light.

Skoda have come back, via the dealer, and said it is a User fault, alleging it is caused by the chemicals I used to clean the car.

The Skoda dealer cleaned the car on arrival in the UK and the Detailer cleaned the car before applying the coating but I cannot prove I didn't clean the car.

Before I approach Skoda UK direct, has anyone else got this marking.

I will try and upload some pics this week.

thanks

Some things never change!  Sounds like the same old standard response from Skoda that 'external factors' have caused the issue.  I've had this same problem on my MKII in addition to the other paint related issues and after many attempts and arguments it is still not resolved. They even told me acid must have been poured on the paint at some stage!!  I hope you get it resolved but it might be an uphill battle.

Maybe the best action is give them a chance to resolve and then take the f###### straight to small claims when they star spouting crap like that. Get an independent specialist to write a report.

Must be worth £50 or whatever it costs just for the experience !

Good morning - any update on this?  Randomly this morning I noticed my nearside boot window trim has white water marks all over it which don't seem to want to rub off!  I only ever clean my car with a trade name car shampoo and leather!

Had the same problem on a number of cars including a seat exeo.

Took my two month old superb to have a little bodywork done and questioned their technician about the few water marks that had started to appear on the chrome window trim near the drivers wing mirror.

He confirmed that it is some of the chemicals used (normally at the hand car wash places where they spray the cars prior to washing them) which attacks the plastic coated chrome strips. He told me to get some polish ASAP (used the autoglym one supplied with the life's one product) and gently polish off.

Worked a treat although I imagine that done on a few occasions over time the polish might tarnish the plastic chrome strip itself!

So update on this.  Skoda agreed that it was a warranty issue and have replaced the chrome trim.  I'll be watching the other windows!
