150 Yeti vs 170 Yeti

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried a new 150 Yeti who has previously had a 170 Yeti. I was wondering how they compare. I have been having a problem with my 170 for 11 months and Skoda are apparently going to "help" by putting some money towards the change. The dealers are not allowed to sell 170s as they are involved in the emissions scandal, so I may have to try a 150. Any thoughts?

You'll be hard pressed to notice a difference power wise but the 150 is much more refined than the 170, it's a fantastic engine :)

There are some details here:

After having driven the new 150 about 1500 miles, the engine sweet spot is about 200 rpm higher than on the 170. The (presumably) smaller turbo kicks in powerfully rather like the old PD engine at around 2000 rpm. The car feels more agile than the old 170, but that may be the difference between a brand new car vs. a 6½ year old one with 100,000 miles on it.

it is alarmingly quiet at motorway speeds, so creeps into the blue light special zone without you noticing it. The quiet engine means that you notice road noise and a little gear whine more than you are used to.

The Amundsen is much better integrated than the Columbus was and the hands free telephone connection works like a charm.

The factory foglights stink, but the addition of halogen long range lights to the xenon is an improvement. Needs high grade Philips or Osram replacement bulbs before winter.

All-in-all, not so much different, but clearly more sophisticated in a lot of small details, particularly in the engine management software.

I've driven 15000 miles in my 150 SEL manual.

It's virtually as quick as my previous 170 until over 3500 rpm where the 150 tails off compared to the 170.

MPG about 10% better. The engine warms up quicker too.

Only slight downside is re-filling the Adblue every 6000 miles.

The Bi-xenons are even better than the original xenons on my pre facelift 170 as well.

What size brakes does the 150 come with ?

The 170 had 312mm fronts, while other models were smaller.
