The Reality?

Featured Replies

OK... "someone" has said that I'll be lucky to get more than 140BHP out of engine come Jabba-time on Dec 12th...

So, in order for me to not EXTREMELY disappointed on the day, (that I doubt) - what should I be looking at getting, bearing in mind my engine is as standard at the moment?

I don't want to set my standard at 150BHP if in reality that's not possible like Jaytee got from his TDI 110... (because that's kind of what I'm setting my ideals by.)

So, come on, someone who really knows their 5hit please tell me what I can expect?

Ring Jabba on monday morning and ask them...

I'd expect whatever bhp gain you get, coupled with the increase of torque, will be very noticeable...

Jason,

I can't comment on diesels as i don't have one, but i went to Jabba with LOW expectations, after being told by all & sundry that a low-mileage engine would supposedly be "tight" and would get better with miles...

Therefore i set my sights on 225 Bhp or thereabouts.

Oh how wrong they were :D

Don't necessarily believe what people tell you, the only figures that matter are the ones you get on the day ;)

Jason , "the reality" is , are you happy with it ? , and I'm sure you will be . A few BHP here or there makes no difference , it's all down to whether you are pleased with the increase in power and torque .

You won't regret it :D

as various people keep pointing out (Fabprezza, TaviaRS etc etc) its not the numbers its the area under the curves.

I'm sure the torque figure will be massively improved... and, as pointed out, whatever the gain is, my little furby will feel like a little pocket rocket. :D

It doesn't stop me thinking about BHP though, as that seems to be the standard that all cars are compared by. I guess it's a sort of "male ego" thing having horses under the bonnet, isn't it?

Jas,

it's the way it drives that matters but it's always nice to know what you got though.

However, as soon as you get used to it you'll be wanting more.;)

145 no problem jason.

Jason theres no reason why you wouldnt get similar outputs to me (145bhp) and as I reckon Mike will have done a fair few PD TDis since, you could well get more.

Also bear in mind mine was the first Furby Mike had done and yours will be nicely run in as you've done a few more miles.

I would ask Mike for loads of torque and not worry about the final bhp figure (within reason)

I went hoping for 220bhp/230lbft and got 230/250! Wonderful figures in isolation, and nice round ones too, but what really turns me on (when driving my 4X4 redface.gif ) is the mid-range punch for overtaking.

What, not leaves. ;)

Jason

Its time you got the horsepower thing out of your head ;) but if that's only what you want, you need to spend some money to get it in a different car !

If you stick with the Fabia (and yes I very nearly bought a 100TDi after my Impreza), and high torque does not impress you, can I suggest something else ?

The 30-70 time

- Go to Jabba, they will do a cracking job and you will be very happy.

- Then (!) get a stopwatch / friend with stop watch and time the 30-70 on the speedo (do 33-75 to allow for speedo error)

- Then have a look in Autocar's test pages and compare you time with the 30-70 times of their roadtests

That will put into perspective just how competitive you car is in real driving and might help to polish your ego a bit ?

:)

Hmmm. Nice fat torque curve's what you want, Jason. Torque is definitely where it's at!! (Mind your clutch tho' ;))

Hmmm - Some nice input...

Right - consider the BHP figure now forgotten, and the torque figure given primary importance!

I'm fairly impressed with the torque as it stands, but this is only the case down at really low revs (i.e it doesn't stall) and when pulling up hill (i.e revs don't die much) - BUT, when it comes to overtaking the combination of my std engine and wider wheels, means I have no confidence when it comes to overtaking, unless it's a decent 30 or 40mph to 60-70 in third... that's the only gear I feel there is any guts in. :(

I guess 4th gear should become mega-powerful when Mike's fettled with it a bit. :D

PS: Feeling warm and fuzzy again after the cooling off of the "you're not getting more than 135HP" post.

Jason,

Just dug out these (admittedly) rough acceleration timings...

There were done post Jabba.

30-70, 7.0secs (through gears)

30-50 in 4th 5.4 secs

50-70 in 4th 4.8secs

50-70 in 5th 6.8 secs

80-100 in 5th 10.5secs

30-100 through gears 20.5secs

hope this helps!

All I can say is I hope you did the 30-100 on that private test track you go to all the time. :p ;)

Thanks for the info. I think the way your car shifted on the 21/9/03 said more than any words ever can.
