vRS Suspension (of disbelief)

Featured Replies

Maybe there is something wrong with your car? many reviews have stated that the car will dispell any bumps or ruts in the road with ease including speedbumps.

it has soft spring in standard form with not over dramatic dampers. should go over them fine.

Have you got moded setup? check tyre pressure

Hmm speedbumps are so variable that you can't make any sweeping statements about it IMHO.

There are those that my (currently standard) vRS will hardly notice, others in the same street have a different up/down profile and it really takes a kicking. Then there are those 'straddle' type ones, which I detest as they cause a lot of stress if you hit them slightly wrong. For a sporty car it's not bad, there are cars out there that have hard-as-nails suspension and you'd have to glue your false teeth in (if you had them :P )

- it could all be down to Hemel's roads which I have no doubt will win an award one day for being some of the worst maintained in the country.

Youve not been to Bradford or Leeds then !!! :thumbdwn:

Seriously, the suspension is on the firm side but it appears you have a problem. Take it to the dealer and ask if you can borrow a vRS to compare the suspension

99% of speedbumps my car hates, and I mean hates, I feel like the wheel is going to break and the front will fall off the car.

What drives me crazy is the money the council/government spend on street furniture in an effort to make everything slow and safe and brightly coloured, and completely ignore potholes, ruts and sinking manhole covers which if you're unlucky enough to hit under braking will destroy your chances of stopping and even staying in control. I'm starting to have sympathy for 4x4 drivers because it's almost becoming necessary.

I'm planning to do a little trip around the place with my camera to capture the lunacy.

I know I'm going OT with my little rant now but I'd rather have smooth, well maintained roads with speed cameras where there is a need to keep speed in check, instead of the assault course of bumps and chicanes which seem to be the fashion and affect vehicles by size not speed.

Certainly not the case with the one I drove round here, but, as said, there are many kinds of speed bumps/cushions. Saying that, the best car I've owned for dealing with speed bumps was my Disco - funnily enough, I suspect 4x4 drivers are just the people the speed bumps are put in to try and slow down

The ones on the drive here are stupidly harsh. Made of concrete from the 80s probably. There's two of them in a row, so once you're over the 1st, all 4 wheels hit them together, then your rear wheels have to get over the 2nd one. 3 doubles like that with a big long flat one at ether end of the drive.

I'm sure most cars don't like them, maybe its the vRS tyre profile, but mine hates them. I'm on a standard setup at the mo.
