Glow plug warning light keeps flashing

Featured Replies

My skoda fabia estate tdi 2010 has a warning light flashing and I keep losing power until it come to a standstill. Handbook says its the glow plug warning light. Once I've stopped and turned off engine for a while, it starts ok but plays up again after a few miles. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?and is it dangerous to carry on driving until I can get a machanic to sort it out? Thanks guys

It's the "somethings gone wrong" light. Could be any one of dozens of causes. Fault code scan required.

Wouldn't recommend driving it either.

Could do with shedding some more details on the ol' girl, mileage, last serviced (was glow plugs changed?) etc.

Does it go into limp mode (reduced power)? I had this and the egr vavle needed replacing. Cost £700 -£800. I have also had flashing glow plug without limp mode. This was new lambda sensor needed. I have also had intermitent flashing glow plug after a good warm up. This was faulty exhaust gas temperature sensor. It will need a skoda dealer to diagnose. Cost £60 approx.

I haver never had to have a forced regeneration of the DPF but this could be what is needed. Diagnosis at a dealer is your next step I think. Maybe another forum member can recomend a competant dealer near Chilbolton.

If a DPF issue / urgent requirement for a regen the DPF warning light should have come on first indicating the need to go for a 30 minute drive keeping the engine speed above 2000rpm, which of course is not possible in limp mode. If this did not clear the problem then limp mode would follow.

Just the glow plug light indicates a different fault and the emissions system is just one possibility.

Only a fault scan will identify what is triggering the light, preferably by a reputable knowledgeable independent specialist who has a reasonable hourly labour rate.

Check the break light.. may b 1 light will be off... Just replace it... I also experienced the same problem... Just a change of bulb sorted all the problem...
