Wheres the best diesel

Featured Replies

Likewise, but these days I'm on a BP lookalike place fuel, and MPG is a lot more on this stuff than any supermarket. Possibly it's due to fact that it's a bit cheaper per litre. But I found in nine years that Furby likes her fuel from any place and the sleazier the better. Tart :notme:

Haha that's a fantastic post

The debate rumbles on because there are lots of people that believe there is naff all difference between supermarket fuel and branded fuel.

And for many, if not most diesel engines thats true.

However, the original poster posed the question because he has a rough running engine on cheap fuel and wanted advice, and having been in the same boat, I wish I'd gone online and asked for help too.

I do a lot of miles in my work Nissan and have noticed that Shell Fuelsave diesel (not the Nitroplus whatever) gives me significantly worse fuel economy than any other fuel (about 5mpg) I'm using Fuelio to measure my fuel consumption -I haven't tried running it on the super premium stuff but am almost inclined to think that Shell deliberately make the cheaper stuff perform less well to make the premium fuel seem better than it is. I do quite a lot of private miles in the car in addition to work so it's in my interest to make it as economical as possible.

I posted previously about the difference fuel makes too..

ie -Topaz have our work fuel contract. One nearest our local depot closed so a deal got done with another local fuel station to accept our fuel cards temporarily.

Vans yhat were regularly fueled at the temp station ( cheapest fuel anywhere..) ended up getting fuel filters changed..penny only dropped with management it was the $/ diesel from Amber killing them when one van had filter done twice in 7weeks, running exclusively on it...

all vans were 2009-2011 transits of various size and connects.

instruction went out to stop using the temp station, and people were assigned a task of driving vehicles the 15miles the other direction to fill them at a proper Topaz until the renovation work was finished at the one 2miles away..

Whether its crappy fuel at TESCOs, or dirty storage tanks, or whatever, I'll not be using it again.

You can only act on what you find, and a healthy diesel that turns all lumpy, loses power and wont run on all cylinders when cold is dangerous, let alone annoying...

especially when a change of fuel supplier fixes it.

I've found the Superb seems to run best / smoothest with best mpg when using Shell FuelSave Diesel and as good as or slightly better than with Shell Nitro+. BP Ultimate diesel seems to be third best that I have found with mine.
