Aircon problem on Fabia Comfort 1.4 2001 plate

Featured Replies

Put my Fabia 1.4 Comfort (19k miles only) into local garage today for AIRCON charge

Garage advised that a fault code on the recharge machine showed apparently an evaporator problem

The garage is seeking advice as to how to fix from elsewhere, but they are uncertain if the "works" is mounted under the dashboard on the passenger side  - or the drivers side

If the latter it may mean taking off the steering wheel and part of the dash board to get "at it"

Any advice as to where and how would be appreciated

Maybe this will help you.

Right in the middle isn't it? Where the A/C pipework goes through from the engine bay, evaporator is just the other side of the firewall.

Get vcds on it, might just be evaporator temperature sensor?

I'm suspecting the evap temp sensor. There is a guide on here somewhere iirc.

This one ?

That's the one.

More details - the fault code is 00818 sensor for evap outlet temp G263

Your advice as to what the fault is, where is it - and how does one get to it to replace etc

Many thanks to all those Fabia owners who have responded with excellent advice  on this aircon subject

As my local garage in Southeast Essex are not skilled in aircon repairs , I shall be considering utilising an auto aircon  company and have located some who say they specialise in this field

Any recommendations please re a reliable and competent aircon repairer for the Southend on Sea area ?

It's not really an aircon repair at this point, it's just removing and replacing a sensor from the depths of the dash. No specialist knowledge of aircon is relevant.

Just to explain: the sensor doesn't go into the refrigerant circuit, it just sits **close to** the evaporator.
