Best tape for holding together plastic parts?

Featured Replies

Want to tape together the cracked bonnet support holder in my Octavia mk2 and also a part in my wife's Toyota for holding up the parcel shelf.

What is the best tape to use for this?

I would replace the bonnet holder. What happens if the tape fails and someone is working on the engine?

If it's the lug for the wire on the parcel shelf these are pennies

Can the bonnet support holder be purchased separately? Re the Toyota part, it split from the main panel.

I'm at work this afternoon so I'll ask the Station Fitter, most of my Company Vehicles are held together with tape.

Gorilla tape? I know Gorilla glue is tough as hell so I would imagine their tape would live up to similar standards. But seriously, taping a bonnet support?

Hi J306TD, attached is a picture of the Toyota issue.

If it were me I'd glue the snapped lug on with Araldite or JB Coldweld, but not before putting a bolt through from the other side, with a nice big repair washer to reinforce it.  If I didn't have the lug, I'd probably just sleeve the bolt (as a replacement to the lug) with a bit of plastic tubing.

Having said that, why not just replace the broken panel, either with new, or from a scrappy if it's pricey new.

For a Toyota that looks remarkably similar to the parcel shelf issues on the Fabia 2

I did try Q-Bond, but it didn't work. I think the problem with Q-Bond is getting the powder to fill the crack, given the position of the broken part.
