Skoda Columbus on ebay, any thoughts?

Snipped wires ....quickest way to steal it..ask if it's got code included.

I don't even understand why that part of wiring loom would be included...

You can guess though...

Smash window

Undo four screws

Snip loom

Run off

Definitely stolen as no owner would cut the original wiring loom from their car.

Sure, that all makes perfect sense, but why include the wiring in the sale? Surely it should just be binned to avoid it looking like it's stolen!

Thieves are stupid...but yes I agree .

Snipped wiring and no code.

You would have thought to make it look legit you would have binned the wiring and included the code as these are easy to get.

I like the reason for sale...an upgrade.

To what exactly lol

I know doh lol

I bought one on eBay and 1st unit was faulty and they sent me another one, which worked perfectly and had the latest maps and firmware installed.  Just to make you aware, that the earlier models had LCD display with CCFL backlighting and the newer ones had LED, which is more preferable.

I would suspect that this unit has outdated maps and firmware.  If you intend to use bluetooth, you will also need to buy the VAG bluetooth unit, as there's none built-in.  The Columbus is a great unit and I would recommend it.

I think the issue is not with the unit but the fact is obviously stolen.

Another way of looking at it is that they did scrap the car and they cut a chunk of loom out incase anyone wanted to fit it into something else, possibly non vag.

Just a thought.

The listing says it's for sale due to upgrading.

The message says the car was scrapped.

No code either.

I'd bet my bottom dollar it's stolen

Breakers cut looms when they remove stuff, not sure why as it takes more effort to do that

the loom is not a factory loom so might have been a bluetooth loom

Same goes for stealing it, especially if you know what you're nicking.

Codes aren't given out with new cars (haven't been for quite some time). You only need the code if putting headunit into another car. If the unit was still in the original car, then the code wouldn't have been known for quite some time.

Just because it has no code, doesn't mean it's fact it's stolen.

This is true, I don't have a code for the Bolero that I took out of mine when upgrading to an Amundsen+ bought from someone on here. My local VAG service depot stated that I'd probably have to put it back into my car for them to be able to read the code.

That sale does look rather fishy though, I'd agree with that.

I've had codes handed over by my local dealership. All they needed was the headunit (not in the car) and my proof of ID.

I think it's probably one of those times that less would have been more in the advert. (i.e no loom)

However, looking at other car parts, quite frequently a short piece of loom comes with the item.

This one, for example....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E36-3-Series-18-Button-Full-OBC-Complete-Set-Up-With-Sensors-Stalk-/122021782455

....everything has stunted looms.

As Eddie "the guru" NL said, breakers yards cut looms like that too......mainly because they don't know what they're looking at. Not all of us are blessed with "the knowledge" or Briskoda membership ;) ;)

The upgrading/scrapping thing......the seller is a woman. ;) ;)

I'm not advocating this is all kosher, but it is not beyond possibility that it is, and £200 would not be a bad punt on it.

as it is on ebay, you will be covered by paypal

I would guess a smart thief wouldn't sell on there either

and the unit is quite old too
