2014 with Bolero head unit - what are my options

Featured Replies

Hi all - really need some help from others who are up to speed on this.  My dealer was as much use as a chocolate teacup.  I have a MkIII with a Bolero headunit registered 1st march 2014.

I stupidly ordered the Mitsui iphone connector which replaces the USB port in the car.  I managed to get the £100 back from dealer as there was no compatible lightning cable at the time.  Ive tried several ones suggested, but none of the mitsui cables work so I dont have any capability to charge my phone, apart from a crappy USB cigarette power adapter & iphone lightning cable.

Ive read a bit about Mirrorlink & smartlink & Ive seen other peoples cars who get better integration between their head unit & their iPhone & Im jealous!  I really want to see my google maps on my head unit screen!

1.Is there now an approved Skoda Mitsui connector cable with Lightning for iphone?

2.Does Smartlink & Mirrorlink just work with newer head units which have better/different hardware?

3.Or does smartlink/mirrorlink work with a software upgrade to the head unit?

4.If capability of my head unit is limited, then do I have any 3rd party options? Can I replace my head unit?

Im really keen to try & better integrate my phone functionality - Ive only done 17,000 miles & end of the year I really need to make a decision if I pay off the finance & keep the car. But if my options are limited, then I may well hand the car back & buy something else.

thanks!

The lighting able for mitsumi has been around for a couple of years, just one from your dealer.

2. yes

3. no

4. yes

FYI: USB slot charges verrry slowly with small current.

I use an aftermarket ciglighter charger for my iPhone which is quite fast, 40-50 % / hour.

Agree with Aki.

Lots of us in the same boat - stuck with highly integrated head unit that doesn't perform well. The one thing that really matters to me is sound quality and the "MIB1" Bolero/Amundsen don't have great sound either.

If you sort it out do let us all know what and how

thanks guys - useful responses that have really saved me a lot of time trying to clutch at straws!

gutted though - I love the car.  Its nothing fancy like a VRS - just a standard 1.4SE DSG.  Guess I need to try and get a good deal with dealer on swapping out for a new car (may have to search for others who have been doing the same, or starting a more appropriate thread on the matter)

I plan to buy this from Pioneer made specifically for Octavia 5E. It should be released for sale in august.
