MirrorLink/Android Auto && Nexus phones

Featured Replies

Hello to all in this forum, nice place!

I was following the topics but couldn't find an answer for the Bolero MirrorLink/AA on Nexuses. Octavia 2016.

Tried both Nexus 5 & 6,both with latest Android 6. In both modes it does not show anything, only difference is in AA (Android Auto) I can see on status bar (connected to your car). But nothing else, just 'check your connection bla bla'.

Tried to download AA from PlayStore, claims its not available in my region (do I need app at all?).

Then browsing the mirrorlink site found Sony Z3 compact is compatible, got a friend, tried and it work out of the box. Has preinstalled mirrorlink service and app. Basically mirroring the phone screen to Bolero. So far so good but after a day I've read it's like this when car is stationary, in driving conditions only "approved" apps can be use (Cygic...).

For me it's becoming useless extra, any advises?

Thanks & regards

Yes you do need the Android Auto application installed on the phone. It won't work without it. It works well with my Nexus 4 running Android 6.

hmm need to find work around and install it. Which apps can you use - all installed or just Google ones?

Thank you

There is a selection of pre-approved apps that can be used.  The full list is here:

The issue may be due to the way Android 6 handles USB connections.  You always used to be able to set a default connection option for when a USB connection was made (charge only/FTP/MTP etc) but this has been removed in Marshmallow.  now you have to manually tell the device you want to use the USB as a File transfer method.  If this option does not display when connecting, you'll need to set the preference each time in developer settings!  It's also possible the cable you are using is a 'charge only' cable instead of a 'charge and sync' cable as I found out when I first got my Octavia.  Android Auto should then start up on the phone and the head unit although more often than not, you'll need to select the device from a list on the head unit display.

This is perhaps one of the most frustrating things about Google - they bring out Android Auto (yay!) then cripple it with a feature update in the latest available OS (booo).  Does no-one in the company talk to other departments?  The most frustrating part is the smug look I get from my wife when she connects her iPhone and CarPlay starts up with no problems whatsoever!

Thanks!

And make sure your permissions are selected for android auto. Changed from an s7 to a OnePlus 3 during the week which is closer to vanilla android and had a lot of issues until I reviewed permissions.
