Three child seats in rear of Superb s3

Featured Replies

Has anyone installed three child seats in the rear and are the children able to click in the seatbelts themselves? Has anyone advice on which child seat suits best to allow this happen safely. The children are three, five and six. We still obviously click in the three year old but the question relates to older children having enough space for their little hands.

Thanks

We had the same concerns so we bought 2 of these -

Harnessed unti 8yo. Our kids are 5, 3 & 1 so the youngest is rearward facing at present but the eldest will be out of his seat by the time the little guy needs a booster.

We've got 3 older seats in the back of our Octavia and your concern is really the only reason we've bought the Superb. The poor eldest had to climb into his seat with the seatbelt permanently clicked in as the buckle is basically under the youngest kids seat. No hand is fitting in there, even with a buckle/belt extender on. Way too squished and not safe. And the Octavia is not wide enough for those seats mentioned above.

We get our Superb next week and I think the kids are more excited than us!

Definitely the same reason I'm asking. I also have an Octavia and the two elder kids have to climb onto the child seat and pull the permanently clicked in seatbelt down over their heads and up over their legs. Thankfully though the Superb will be mine only except on family occasions as SWMBO has a C4 Picasso for the school runs etc. So I'll have to buy new seats that will suit both cars. I was told the Superb will fit three seats in the back, so now I'm asking has anyone done it.

Thanks backdoc. Please keep us updated when you get it and best of luck with it !

The eldest may still need a seat though

Kids have to be 12 now or 135cm tall before they can be without a full seat. Booster seats are not allowed.

Apologies if you are already aware but lots of people I have spoke to have no idea and have young kids either with a booster or nothing at all so felt compelled to mention it

Booster cushions are still permitted - current situation as below:

The regulations about booster cushions are being reviewed. Some reports have said they will change in December 2016 and from then booster cushions will only be approved for use for children taller than 125cm and weighing more than 22kg. No decision has as yet been made yet, and a date for the change not set.

If the changes go ahead, they will only apply to newly sold booster cushions, not ones which are already in use and meet existing safety standards. So, parents who use old booster cushions that comply with the existing regulations will not be breaking the law if they continue to use them after any rule change. They will not be required to buy new booster seats to meet any rule change.

I have had 3 seats in the back for my son (age 6) and 2 of his friends on trips out etc..

Its tight and i have had to do each seatbelt leaning over etc, however if i switched to 3 of the Britax seats we have  they should be ok, but still tight for them to click in

You are quite right. The boosters are quite a bit narrower in the base though, so I think once they outgrow the harnessed seats at 8, we'll be able to fit 2 boosters and just one of the harnessed child seats in no worries.

I'm happier with them in a harnessed seat until 8 though, as all the research I've done suggests these are much safer than just a booster with a standard lap and sash belt.

In Australia they recommend using a booster until the child is 145cm.

Hi backdoc, I'm wondering have you picked up your new car yet? Are you happy with it? How are the back seats fairing out?

Delivery is in 3 days. Once the seats are in I'll post some pics.

Looking forward to it, even though it's my wife's car!

Hi Backdoc

How's everything going with the car now? I hope it's everything you expected. Did you manage the child seats alright or did you have to alter/buy anything to adapt the seats?

Sorry for the delay. Went on a family holiday shortly after receiving the car. Left it in an airport car park for 2 weeks!

Well, the seats we bought are quite large, so it was still a tight squeeze, but I got them all in. The big advantage with these seats is they are harnessed until 8-9yo so no hunting for the belt buckle in between the seats (not a single hand would fit anyway!)

The shot of the legs is with our almost 5.5yo and almost 3.5yo. The drivers seat is in my position and I'm 6ft, so there really is acres of leg room (even though our son still enjoys kicking the back of the seat........ not sure that is ever going to change unless we got a long wheelbase S class Mercedes).

The wife and I both absolutely love the car. It's actually exceeded expectations. Launch control is surprisingly fast. I'm amazed how quick it feels and I suspect I've raised a few eyebrows at the traffic light Grand Prix, including my own.

Backdoc,

Thank you very much for taking the time and excellent photos. I have smaller child seats but from your pictures I can see that i can still get even bigger ones with the harnesses and have room to install them.

Thanks

I know it's a few months old now but thanks for your detailed post - really helpful!

Good post thanks. Has anyone managed to get two ISOFIX seats plus one ISOFIX seat (or not) across the back? I have a 2.5 & a 5.5 year old and this car was supposed to be our last for some time as its huge....and big enough for a family of 4 for quite some years yet.

However, another little bun is now in the oven and I'm concerned I won't be able to fit a rear facing ISOFIX baby seat on one side, another ISOFIX seat on the other with a seatbelt secured (not attached ISOFIX) centre seat. The reason all three need to be ISOFIX is because one will always travel in the front when I'm not in the car. I specced ISOFIX for the front passenger seat aiming off for this such eventuality. Why I didn't just get the snip I don't know!

So, I will need two narrow'ish uprights for 15-36kg and a narrow base rear facing seat, all of which must be ISOFIX. My alternative solution is to use one or more of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B017FXG5QW?psc=1 as it's my only other option. Any ideas on eat suitable for my soon to be seating issue?

Cheers

^ I have two the same age as yours. My wife was idly discussing what we would do if another came along - the answer was 'Buy a Kodiaq'

Sorry, no help whatsoever. I know you can now get Isofix bases for the baby (Group 0) carriers that also accept larger seats from the same range, which would give a bit of flexibility. The correct answer is drive to the big retailers and try them out with the existing small people in place. They may need bribing with snacks or iPads though, mine would...

Hi just been looking at this post as have a Superb 3 on order.  What did you do about the top attachment point for the middle car seat?

TIA

Nigel
