Octavia 2011 1.8 TSI Heavy OIL Consumption

Featured Replies

Hello, I am an owner of Skoda Octavia year 2011 1.8 TSI. My car Drink Oil, A Michanical Engineer Told me that i have to OVERHOLE the Engine, By Changing Pistons and Rings + some other parts.

Does any one have an experience with such thing, and if this is a good solution for my Skoda? Please A.S.A.P.

It's bad news I'm afraid. Common problem on the 1.8 TSI of that age. Mine is currently in the garage awaiting new engine because of same issue. There's a lot of info on here about the problem of high oil consumption and timing chain tensioner failures which also beset that engine.

I have one too. I must be lucky as all is fine and my chain tensioner mod has been done too.

I would have thought an engine swap is a better idea if you can afford it.

Overhauling the engine could cost almost as much as a recon engine.

It's a problem but you may slow it down by changing to a 10w-40 VW 502.00 spec oil.  Also, don't be afraid to drive the car with some bigger throttle openings rather than puttering about.

Has your mechanic done a compression test (wet and dry) and a leak down test?

What oil do you normally use?
